LAB RULES & REGULATIONS

*** The BRAE labs are available Monday through Saturday from 8-5pm, with NO exceptions. ***

YOUMUST CHECK INwith Virgil Threlkel, Lab Technician, or the student supervisor each time you use the BRAE Labs.

  • Requirement for basic use of lab equipment BRAE 129; No use of machinery such as lathes, mills & band saw without technician approval.
  • Priority for laboratory/facility usage is as follows:

1.Regularly scheduled classes (including BRAE 240, etc.).

2.Supervision courses (Senior project, special problems).

3.Club/extracurricular activities.

4.Professional development/research activities, unless directly related to a specific course.

5.Use by ITRC employees.

  • Laboratory activity/usage shall only take place under the responsible charge/supervision of a qualified individual. That individual will be present and available during all activity. At the conclusion of the work period, this individual will oversee all clean-up procedures. Qualified individuals may include:
  • Instructor
  • Departmental technician
  • Staff personnel
  • Assigned student assistant
  • Insufficient clean up/organization may result in the loss of laboratory use privileges.
  • No tools/equipment from the tool boards and associated storage areas are to be removed from the lab area.
  • All damaged/faulty equipment will be reported to the department technician(s) at the earliest opportunity.
  • Individuals working in the shop area must wear safetyglassesand appropriate clothing. No shorts or open-toed shoes are allowed.
  • Students must be “checked out” prior to the usage of each piece of equipment. Set-ups on equipment including the plate shear, press brake, lathes and milling machines must be approved by the person in responsible charge.
  • Anyone in violation of safety rules may be asked to leave the premises until the insufficiency or violation is corrected.
  • Technician will be available for student assistance during regular posted hours. Shops and associated tool boards will remain fully secured otherwise.
  • Labs are to be used ONLY for the project specified on this Work Permit Application.
  • Adhere to lab use policy and procedures. Available on the BRAE web site or from Technician
