Job Title: Finance Officer
Accountable to: Finance Co-ordinator
Main purpose of job: L’Arche Lambeth aims to provide high quality care to people with learning disabilities within the context of an ecumenical Christian Community. The Finance Officer is responsible for the operation of the Community’s accounting systems and financial records and for working with the Finance Co-ordinator to ensure that these resources and systems are well managed.
Main responsibilities:
- Day to day Management of Income and Expenditure
- Operation of the computerised accounting system to trial balance (using Quickbooks)and ancillary records.
- Receiving and banking all monies paid to the Community.
- Maintaining purchase ledger and controlling creditors.
- Maintaining cashbook and reconciling monthly with bank statement.
- Monitoring of fee and benefit income re each resident, and invoicing, to ensure that it is accurate and received on time.
- Petty Cash, income and expenditure
- Controlling and monitoring the petty cash system of all the cost centres (workshops & houses).
- Operating the Central petty cash system.
- Offering training and support to House and Work Leaders in the use of the petty cash system
- Personal monies
- Overseeing the houses’ administration of residents’ personal monies
- Offering training and support to House Leaders in recording personal money transactions.
- Payroll duties
- Operation of the computerised payroll system for about 65 people monthly.
- Other duties
- Dealing with insurance cover and related matters in consultation with the Finance Co-ordinator.
- Dealing with correspondence relating to financial matters.
- Other administrative duties
- Other administrative duties for the Co-ordinating Team and Community as requested and as time allows.
- Additional Duties
The Finance Officer is invited to be involved in wider Community activities as appropriate, and should be available to perform other tasks as requested by, and agreed with the Finance Co-ordinator or Community Leader.
- Supervision and Training
- The Finance Officer will have regular supervision meetings with the Finance Co-ordinator.
- The Finance Officer will participate in training as agreed with the Finance Co-ordinator.
- Role Review and Appraisal
- The Appointment of the Finance Officer is subject to a probationary period of 3 months. There will be an annual appraisal in line with Community policy, and a review of the role every three years.

Skills required:
Essential:
- Experience of computerised book keeping and data input
- Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing, including with those without a financial background
- A desire to work within the philosophy of L’Arche as described in the Charter of L’Arche
- An aptitude for office administration and organisation
- The ability to work in a team
- A high level of personal integrity
- The ability to work with confidential material and information
Desirable:
- Experience of Quickbooks software
- A desire to be involved in Community activities
- Potential to develop skills in financial management and policy
- Experience of Iris payroll software

1.Total working hours are 37.5 hours per week with core hours of 9am to 5pm.
2.There is no payment for overtime.
3.Holidays are 31 days per annum, excluding Bank Holidays.
4.This is a live-out post. The Community operates a flat salary structure. The present gross salary is £20,520.

5.The post is subject to a probationary period of 3 months and an annual appraisal in line with Community policy.
