Krakow Film Festival for free

For the 56th time, the cinemas in Krakow will fill with the audience thirsty for fascinating documentary stories from around the world, intriguing short film forms, music images, the latest works by well-known film-makers, inspiring works by the classics and animated films with stunning form and content. However, KFF does not only include competition film screenings, which continuously gather a crowd of viewers, but also an extensive programme of accompanying events and special sections, which are available for free this year.

Every year, hundreds of viewers participate in the extraordinary screenings of the series Sounds of Music, probably in the most beautiful open-air cinema in Poland, Kino pod Wawelem. This time, the films shown on the big screen are united by the phenomenon of the Beatlemania, referring both to hysterical reactions of the audience at the concerts of the boys from Liverpool, as well as all kinds of cinematic attempts to document the phenomenon of the Beatles with their performances and records and in feature creations. For the best of starts of the evenings in the open air, a representation of the best DJs in Krakow will perform specially prepared music sets, inspired by the legendary music band.

For the third time, in co-operation with Foundation for AGH, Krakow Film Festival prepared a review of the most interesting science documentary films from around the world within the frames of the very popular section Docs+Science. This year, the film programme includes, among others, the unknown story of Polish rocket programme, difficult fates of contemporary bees, the tale about a mathematics genius, the mystery of baobabs and the three-dimensional journey through Africa, during which water is our guide. All screenings are accompanied by meetings and open discussions with eminent experts in various fields of science.

The programme, as every year, includes also many offers for the youngest viewers. This time, the section Kids&Youth was created in co-operation with the Swedish Film Institute and Films for Kids Film Festival, and within its frames we will see, among others, a brilliant film adaptation of the book by Astrid Lindgren, animated illustrations of the poems by Michał Rusinek, and, for older children, a poignant documentary film made by the youngest inhabitants of the refugee camp on the Syrian border. This year, for the first time, both organised school groups and individual viewers can participate in the free screenings.

Almost every festival day starts with the meetings, open to the public, of well-known film critics with outstanding directors, the guests of this year's edition of the festival. Conversations in a relaxed atmosphere of a cafe, called Critical Mornings, will not only be the opportunity to familiarise oneself with the figures and works of great artists, but also to drink coffee in the company of stars from the world of film.

This year's programme of KFFIndustry Zone, the segment of the Festival dedicated to professional film-makers and producers, also includes elements addressed to a wide audience. Free offers for the film fans include, among others, the master lecture of this year's Dragon of Dragon award-winner, Marcel Łoziński, and the phenomenal presentations of interactive projects using the virtual reality technique, made, among others, by the co-author of visual effects for the films "The Dark Knight rises," "The Bourne Legacy," and "Skyfall."

56th Krakow Film Festival is held from May 29 to June 5.
