The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank Mick Seuren who has decided he can no longer maintain our grounds which he has done in a volunteer role with Chantelle and Kylie’s help for several years. We will continue to appreciate their efforts as we shelter under the veranda and sit on his seat. Thanks Mick!!

Thought for the month;

Good judgement comes from experience, a lot of which comes from bad judgement.

The club’s application for a capital works grant for our new arena built with volunteer labour was unsuccessful so the committee has decided to try again next year using a professional arena contractor. The project is expected to cost in the region of $50,000 for a 50x60m all weather surface and we will be applying for multiple grants and have some great fundraising ideas including a joint dressage competition with SEDC at the Lang Lang Showgrounds and our official ARC show ring.

The chocolate drive is in full swing, there will some available at Sunday’s rally if you haven’t got any yet. Karen is asking members to return their money by September’s rally to be in the draw for a FREE rally.

Our club sign is up thanks to Marjie for organizing it, Ponderosa for donating the poles and Lloyd and Rob for erecting it, another great job!

Sue T has offered to donate an Earth ball to the club which the committee accepted with some trepidation, it seems we have some doubts about our horsemanship which need to be overcome. We were assured that it would be introduced to the horses at a special day under Leigh’s watchful, expert eye. Thanks Sue for this very generous offer, we need to be challenged occasionally and it will be a really great addition to our equipment.

Out and About

A big group of KWRHRC spectators went to watch Balmoral’s stallion parade which was much more popular than expected resulting in big delays being bussed to the venue. However because there was a group this didn’t seem to affect anyone’s enjoyment of the evening so if there is an event you would like to share this is the way to do it.

Wombo the wonder pony has added another string to his bow joining the Gippsland Riders for a hunt with the Goulburn Valley Hunt Club’s hounds at Rosedale. After querying Helen’s initial instructions to leap through a fence line once he got idea he managed like a seasoned hunter.

For Sale

Buckskin Welsh Cob Gelding, 14.2h; Ruski is a gorgeous, fun to own boy, he has done PC, ARC, games, trail riding, loves to jump and is a great confidence builder. He would make a great 2nd pony as he has done it all, good home required, $3000. Ph Chantelle 0409 018 507

From Chaff Chat

In the aftermath of EI and the bushfires the Dept. of Primary Industries has decreed as of July 2010 all horse owners must be able to identify the properties where they keep their horses by applying for a property identification code. If you have other livestock you will already have a PIC and just need to add horses.

There is no cost and application forms are available on the web or DPI info line 1800 678 779. This is compulsory, bringing horses into line with other grazing animals and probably to our advantage if another disaster occurs.

The disease outbreak levy continues to be discussed with the government deciding the costs of another EI outbreak would mostly be borne by the horse “industry”. The levy seems to going to be applied to feed, wormers, events, horse registrations or horse shoes. There is a comprehensive article in Chaff Chat if you are interested and comments can still be made to the Australian Horse Industry Council.

New Members
