North Karnataka Student.YoungProfessional.WIE CONGRESS 2016

A two day techno-managerial event that spanned the 16th and 17th of April 2016 with more than 100 participants from various colleges of north Karnataka that included KLSGIT, KLECET, JCE - Belagavi, KLEIT and BVBCET - Hubli, BEC - Bagalkot, HIT - Nidasoshi . The congress was hosted by KLS GIT - Belagavi.

The conglomeration was planned to tether the various student branches of north Karnataka together. The event was a grand success and was graced by the presence of some magnificent dignitaries such as Shri Bholanath N Pal, Mr Sudheendra Koushik, Mrs Uma Bandode, and Mrs. Padma Priya etc.

Day 1: 16/04/2016

The inaugural talk began with lighting the candle and the guest of honour was Shri Bholanath N Pal, founder of Srushti ESDM ltd and a senior member of IEEE. He is a flamboyant personality whose keynote session, ‘Cardless and Cashless India’, focused on digital India and its growth. The event was graced by Dr. Jayant Kittur, Dean R&D, KLS’s GIT and Dr. G. R. Udupi, Professor, E&C Engg, KLS’s GIT.

The congress commenced with its first activity and ice-breaker which participants enjoyed to the core. Clues were given, based on which groups were formed. It was great learning for student delegates and exalted their networking skills.

The next session was by SAC Co-Chair of IEEE Bangalore section, Mr Darshan Shivkumar. He spoke on ‘Pursuit of an Engineer’ and extended it with an activity that brought up a new level of fortitude in participants.

Next in the row was a session on “Profile Building” by Mr Satish AG, founder of the start-up idea Sparkz. He is an amazing personality with perfect blend of knowledge and experience.

The second half of the day 1 started off with panel discussion on ‘Current technical education vs. industry requirement’. The panellists were Mr. B N Pal, Dr. Krupa Rasane, Dr. Veena Desai, Mr. Satish AG, Mr. Mallikarjun Choukimath and student co-ordinator Mr. Bhaskar Joshi. Panel was moderated by Mr. Darshan Shivkumar. Each panellist threw light on their perspective relating to the topic. Following this was techno youth parliament, that tested the intelligence, response rate and problem solving ability of the participants. The day was brought to a glorious end after all the technical and fun activities with the cultural night “Shaam Shandaar”, wherein participants were given the opportunity to exhibit their cultural skills.

Day 2

Following breakfast, Mr Mallikarjun Choukimath spoke on IEEE young professionals. Queries by students on how to manage volunteering and academics were answered. Next up was networking activity “Fun Run”, a series of fun events fashioned like a relay. Participants were given opportunity to network, enhance negotiation skills, fitness, teamwork and presence of mind.

As the day passed, we had Vice chairperson of IEEE Bangalore section, Mr Sudheendra Koushik amongst us. His speech on “Innovation and leadership” inspired the young minds and emboldened them.

Under the events of WIE was panel discussion on “Women Entrepreneurs”.Thepanellists were Miss Noor Afshan, Mrs. Padmapriya, Mrs. Uma Bandode and student co-ordinator Miss Qiraat Attar. Panel was moderated by Dr. Veena Desai. The discussion went on great and it was followed by Noor’s talk and small activities which demonstrated the current impression of the society towards women.

Goodies were given to the winners in various events conducted, feedback was taken, and certificates were distributed followed by vote of thanks from WIE chairperson of IEEE GIT, Ms Pranali Shinde.

The congress was incomplete without the groufies & selfies. All in all, the entire event was a great panoply that left the individuals gratified and invigorated.

Very special thank you to Mr. Sudheendra Kaushik, Vice-Chair, IEEE Bengaluru Section. Thank you to Shri Puneet Kumar Mishra, Treasurer for approving and sanctioning the budget. A big thank you to the SAC team and Young Professionals Affinity Group of IEEE Bengaluru Section for arranging eminent speakers for the congress. We appreciate the presence of all the guests and invited speakers who were the part of the congress.
