General Membership Meeting Minutes

September 12, 2016

Call to order: 7:25 PM

Approval of minutes of prior month’s meeting: Patti Newhouse, Melissa Ruger

Treasure’s report: A detailed report was distributed and always available in the Klinger Lower office. Current Grand Total is $23,272.71with $9,509.88 already dedicated. 6th grade class has $500.00, 7th grade class has $2,537.33, 8th grade $4,053.94

Board Member – Mr. Miller

  • Welcome back to a new school year. We were able to get a lot of work done over the summer.
  • We are a Board that cares about the district and you are welcome to reach out.
  • There are 9 school board members for the 3 elementary, 2 middle and 1 high school. Mr. Miller is the liaison to Klinger at the school board.
  • Mr. Miller enjoyed the picnic tables that were built outside.
  • Addressed pool being closed. The heater is broken and they are looking into options however it is a top priority to fix the pool heater.

Principal’s Report – Mr. Bloom

  • Teachers were able to work together over the summer on Centennial School District Vision and Core Values. Looking for a great awesome year.

  • Bring your own device – Rolling out slowly. Network not able to handle amount of device yet. Kids do not have to bring it if they do not want to. Each year more devices into kids hand.

  • Event Planning – FUNDRAISING
  • When raising funds or seeking donations using the Klinger middle school name, a fundraising form must be filled out two weeks prior to the event (Three weeks according to the policy)
  • Bigger event must be board approved (Not typical)
  • Any flyers that go with an event must be submitted two weeks prior to distribution for approval
  • Flyers that require a permission slip will be printed on ½ sheet of paper
  • Flyers that do not require a permission skip will be printed on ¼
  • We can also develop a digital flyer to post on website and social media
  • E-alerts are to be scheduled with Mr. Bloom and Mrs. Targonski
  • Fundraising policy paper work is available on school website
  • All items will go through the upper office (Mrs. Targonski and Mr. Bloom)
  • Goal for 2016-2017- Create an engaging learning community through positive interactions, support and practice with a focus on parent involvement
  • Looking at all opportunities to bring parents into the building ( library, classroom help, event help, field trips, filed day, picnics
  • He would like to see more Dads to come into buildings say for lunches
  • Clearances not needed for one time cafeteria
  • If direct charge of kids then we need background checks
  • Mrs. Bandura has the list of current background check clearance lists
  • Coffee with Principal to change to “Coffee & Canvas”
  • He would like to host Digital Citizenship workshop for kids to increase awareness about electronic device. Currently kids can have their device with Teacher’s approval only.
  • He would like to hold parent/kids events during the day.

Teacher Rep- Mrs. Clark

  • 6th grade children are transitioning well. They have their lockers down.
  • BYOD- Teachers are struggling as well but it is a tool and we need to teach the kids how to use electronic device. Teachers are learning as well.
  • 10/26/2016 – Veteran’s Day Program. – 100 people in attendance last year. Would love more involvement. Bring Veteran into school that day for breakfast. All age range Veterans attend from age 20- 90 years old. Need more volunteers so please signup.

  • Safe for the office for PTO – Denise Hellenbrand will get it and submit it to Treasurer
  • Dance Dates already approved by Mr. Bloom
  • 10/21/16 - First dance
  • 1/20/17 – 7th Grade Winter Dance
  • 3/17/17- 6th Grade Spring Dance
  • We are looking for better Fund Raiser suggestions

Committee Chair Reports

  • Giant Rewards – Check received over the summer. 559 People signed up so far. It begins at 10/07/2017 but registration begins 09/12/2016. The sign-up sheet will be sent home to 6th graders and will be on school website.
  • Box Tops (Mary Burke Gillen) – Begins 11/7/16. Bring them in.
  • Membership (Lynn Lucot) – 195 new registrations
  • Veteran’s Day (Ms. Clark, Jen Gin)
  • Merchandise (Need chair)
  • Scrip (Need chair)
  • Hospitality (Need chair)
  • Bowling (Michelle Chester) – Pike Lane, Youth bowling league on Friday nights. October to March.
  • Kremps Flower Sales(? ) – Mums will be for sale
  • Dinner nights- Looking into 01/19 & 3/16
  • Designer Bingo night (need chair)
