Competition Rules and Judging Criteria

King’s Research Staff Event 2017: Getting Your Voice Heard

We invite youto create and submit an entry for the “Getting Your Voice Heard” Competition. Creation will take place during the afternoon workshops at the Research Staff Event 2017 for submission by the end of the workshop. Entries will be in a number of categories but all will compete for the same prize. Competition entry is not compulsory, but is encouraged!

Entrants are strongly encouraged to bring their own electronic device to record and submit their entry. Please consider the aim of the workshop and what would be most appropriate for each one, e.g. to write text, to film something or to edit videos. There are a limited number of PCs available for use at Guy’s campus. Please see their location.

Rules

  1. Entries must be submitted electronically to OneDrive, to be viewed in the absence of the entrants (technical details of how to submit entries will be provided in the workshop).
  2. Entries are anticipated to be a series of tweets or blog article (workshop A), a piece of text (workshop B), or a video (workshops C-E), but we welcome creativity within the rules for entry.
  3. Entries must be designed so that they can be viewed in 2 minutes or less.
  4. All entries must be accompanied by an entry form provided indicating name, context and other appropriate information
  5. The topic(s) covered can be anything that the entrants consider is an important message to convey. This is not limited to academic work and can include any issue of importance to the entrants.
  6. Entries will be submitted by teams, the size of which will depend on the number of participants in each workshop. This will be calculated on the day and workshop facilitators will be notified within the first 30 minutes of the workshop.
  7. The total number of entries from all workshops will be limited to 20.
  8. By entering the competition you agree to the content of your entry being posted on the event website after the event. Those who wish to enter the competition but not have their entry posted must indicate this on their entry form.

Judging Criteria

  1. All entries must be considered for their merits of conveying the message, taking into account the constraints of time to compile them and the medium in which they have been submitted. For example, a public speech recorded on a mobile phone must be judged on the content and presentation, rather than the technicalities of the recording.
  2. Level of professionalism
  3. Appropriateness for the intended audience
  4. Creativity
  5. Effectiveness of conveying the message
  6. Clarity of message
