Act 1:

Act 1:
- students use the Big Book What Do You Know! to create something that begins with each letter of the alphabet
- build things representing opposites (such as tall/short or big/small) and ask friends to guess the opposites.
- students use chipboard/cardboard pieces and hammers to “build” letters
- provide recycled materials (paper rolls, lids, corks, popsicle sticks, etc.) to reinforce the “reuse” idea, while students build
- build a house from cardboard and magazines
Writing Component: Children may use construction materials to show the ABCs or numerals. Children may write questions and answers. Children may record what they built to represent each letter of the alphabet. Children may create counting books using the blocks as prompts.

Set-up Ideas: “First Grade Classroom”
Act 1:
- visit a first grade classroom
- set up your center accordingly
- cover and turn your furniture to create “walls”
- provide school supplies, paper, tape, and give the students the freedom to create their “classroom”
- students can recreate a favorite setting that was done earlier in the school year
- take a vote, and come up with a new idea that hasn’t been done before
Writing Component: Write and draw about the setting that you created, why you chose it, and what props you used to create it. Add labels or signs to the setting. Write a story to tell about something that could happen in this setting.
