Art Department

Class: Art & Design 1

Teacher: Mr. Gregory

Dear Parent or Guardian;

Art students will explore a variety of techniques and media in drawing, painting, and design in this beginning art course. Projects will be related to other artist and cultures. Art vocabulary and knowledge of elements and principles will be strengthened through art appreciation and discussions of student work.

Materials packet: $25.00

The materials packet can be purchased from the bookkeeper (If not purchased during registration) for $25.00 and the student will receive a receipt. The bookkeeper will only accept cash, cashiers check or money order. The student is to show the art teacher the receipt and will then be given a materials packet to keep in the classroom and to take home at the end of the year. (Please keep in mind that the teacher can get better prices on these items because we can buy in bulk.) The materials packet is to enhance your students learning experience and basic supplies are provided by the school district. Additional supplies needed are a blank sketchbook that is spiral bound, no smaller that 8”x10” (Included in Materials Packet). All students need to have their materials purchased by September 28, 2012.

DISCIPLINE PLAN

1st time = verbal warning

2nd time = verbal warning/parent contact/one page essay that will include: what rule you broke, why you broke the rule, what you will do different next time and how I as the teacher can help you reach that goal.

3rd time = Assistant principal and parent contact

Severe discipline problems will result in Assistant Principle/student/parent/teacher/counselor conference and/or a referral.

TARDY POLICY

Students will be marked tardy if they are not in their seat when the bell rings. Ten minutes after the bell rings, students will be marked truant if they are not present. The school-wide tardy policy will be followed.

TEACHER ASSITANT (TA) POLICY

Any TA’s will be responsible to be in attendance every day and work on task assigned by the teacher.

GRADING POLICY

Every assignment is worth points. A student’s quarter grade is based on the total number of points earned in that grading period. A student’s earned total is divided by the total points to produce his or her percentage grade. The semester grade is the average of two grades.

90%-100%=A 80%-89%=B 70%-79%=C 60%-69%=D 0%-59%=F

A participation grade is given each quarter and averaged into the total points earned. Participation means being productive and on task with assigned projects on a daily basis, and actively engaging in class discussions and doing daily warm ups in the required sketchbook.

(5 daily points = participation grade). A student will not lose participation points if they have an excused absence. Daily participation is very important.

MAKE UP/HOMEWORK POLICY

For an excused absence only, the amount of time to make up missed work or projects is equal to the time the student misses class. Any student, who is absent due to a home suspension, will not be able to make up work. Attendance is critical for understanding and passing the course. In the portfolio, individual projects will be graded on craftsmanship, originality, requirements, time and effort. Homework is not given on a daily basis, but there may be projects that require time outside of class. Homework will/may be assigned daily. It may include reading, writing, research, etc. Homework will be collected at the beginning of class on the date due. Homework must be complete in order to be turned in. Any work that is not completed or turned in at the beginning of class will not be accepted. (Board Policy 6154) If any student is caught turning in work that is not their own work, they will take zero credit for the project.
