GCF North 2016: Fitness of One, Fitness as One Sermon Series (1st Timothy)

Kids Bible Time #3: Praying Prayers that Please God

Let’s Start.

1. What is prayer? What do you do when you pray? (Praying is talking with God.) How do you know if God likes your prayer and listens to it?

2. How many hours are there in a day? How many days in a week? How much time do you spend in prayer in a day? How about in a week?

Let’s Sing. (Suggested Songs: “Read Your Bible, Pray Every Day” or “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” hymn)

Let’s Study.

3. Read together 1 Timothy 2:1-7 using a Bible version that children can understand more easily (e.g., NIV 1984, NLT, TEV).

4. People talk with God for different reasons. Sometimes we talk to God when we want to thank Him for something. Sometimes we talk to God because we need something. What different kinds of prayers does Paul urge Christians to do? (v. 1)

·  Prayer requests are sometimes called supplications or petitions.

·  Praying to God in behalf of others for their needs is called intercession.

5. Who does God want us to pray for? (vv. 1-2)

6. Why does God want us to pray for them? (vv. 2-3)

7. What does God want for all people? (v. 4) God’s desire is for everyone to be saved, so this should also be the desire of every Christian. Christians should pray for the salvation of people.

8. How can people be saved from God’s punishment for their sins? Who is the only one who can save sinners? (vv. 5-6)

9. What was God’s purpose for Paul’s life? What was his mission? (v. 7)

Let’s Share.

10. Who are the people who are in authority over you? (e.g., parents, teachers, pastors, government officials, etc.). Who do you know that still hasn’t trusted in Christ as Savior and Lord? (e.g., family member, relative, friend, etc.) Take time now to pray for them. Agree as a family to pray for them regularly; decide which day or days in the week you will pray for them.

Memory Verse: 1 Timothy 2:1a (NIV)

“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone...”
