Why and how did you start cycling?
I grew up competing in gymnastics and when I was 14 I was forced to quit due to on-going injuries so my mom signed me up for the “Fast and the Curious” cycling camp through what was then the National Cycling Centre Calgary, held by Dan Proulx
What is your first memory of cycling?
Taking off my training wheels in Edmonton and riding down the driveway on two wheels for the first time while my neighbours cheered me on – I was free! And I’m pretty sure I crashed into the bushes.
Why is cycling so much fun to you?
As Ernest Hemingway put it: “it is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.”
Who has had the most influence on your career and why?
My mom. She signed me up for my first cycling camp and has been my biggest supporter ever since.
What is the most memorable moment you had in your career? What made it interesting?
Winning my first World Cup with teammates Tara Whitten and Steph Roorda. We were all pretty green at team pursuit then and we went out and rode an almost flawless race and took home a gold medal. It was so exciting and inspiring.
What do you do in the when not competing?
Spend time with family and friends, hike, camp.
How would you describe your style of cycling?
Silky smooth!
What was your first job? Was it interesting? What did you do?
Making sandwiches at a coffee shop. It was not very stimulating. But it did make me appreciate how much mayonnaise goes into egg salad!
What was your first car? What was interesting/fun about it?
Red Toyota Accord. I could fit my road bike in the trunk while keeping the rear wheel on! That was pretty convenient.
What is your highest level of education?
Bachelor of science from the University of Victoria 2010
