EXPERIENCE

IT TRAINER 1988 - present

Providing introductory, intermediate, and advanced training to corporate clients and educational institutions in a variety of technologies based on hands-on experience in using these technologies to develop production applications..

The Z/OS curriculum includes introductory through advanced courses covering SQL for beginners to Advanced DB2 Performance and tuning for DBAs and system programmers. A full range of COBOL, JCL, VSAM, CICS, and TSO/ISPF courses is also offered.

The Java curriculum includes Core Java, JDBC, Servlets, JSP, Tag Libraries, and J2EE as well as training in the implementation of Java based solutions in J2EE containers such as WebLogic, Tomcat, JBoss, and Websphere. These courses use the standard Eclipse and NetBeans IDEs as well as UML tools for code development.

Since Java incorporates many dependencies on XML, a full curriculum of XML courses is also offered including Introductory XML, DTD, XSchema, XSLT, XSL-FO, XQuery, J2EE deployment descriptors and the use of XML data types and functions in relational database management systems.

Courses in relational database technology for Oracle, SQLServer, DB2, and MySQL cover basic skills such as using SQL for data access, intermediate skills including performance and tuning techniques, and advanced topics in the area of data base administration and data modeling. The SQLServer curriculum also includes training for VB.NET and ASP.NET.

The OS platforms used for these courses include Windows, Unix, Linux, and z/OS..

MONTEFIOREHOSPITAL (Independent Consultant) 2006 - 2006

Assisted in data modeling new extensions to an existing Sybase patient admission and billing system. Also provided tuning recommendations to minimize the performance overhead of complex queries and increase user satisfaction with system response time. As part of this effort, Java best practice techniques were incorporated into the existing code.

ST JOHN'S RIVERSIDEHOSPITAL (Independent Consultant) 2005 - 2005

Provided SQLServer training and expertise to the application development and DBA staff. Implemented SQLServer Reporting Services and Analysis Services for the OLTP billing system..

THE NEWYORKPRESBYTERIANHOSPITAL (Independent Consultant) 1997 - 2000

Contributed DB2, ORACLE , and IMS DBA expertise and mentoring in a large medical complex. Responsibilities included; Training new DBAs in Oracle, DB2, and SQL Server

Creating the logical and physical design (using the ERWin data modeling tool) for, and the implementation of,

a new terabyte OLTP clinical data repository,

Creating the logical and physical design (using the ERWin data modeling tool) for a new terabyte financial

data warehouse,

Migration of MVS/ESA DBMSs (IMS and DB2) to OS/390

Creating and implementing an off-site disaster recovery scenario,

Replicating the DB2 clinical repository data to Oracle databases at associated hospitals,

Developing Java web applications accessing ORACLE and DB2 databases via JDBC,

Monitoring HIPAA compliance for existing in-house written applications as well as vendor supplied software.

GENERAL ELECTRIC CAPITAL CORPORATION (Independent Consultant) 1994 - 1997

Developed interfaces between Tax and General Ledger applications to provide DB2 and Oracle access in a client-server environment. The project required design of the database using ERWin (for data modeling) as well as design, testing, and implementation of programs, and JCL PROCs in test, user acceptance, and production environments. Also worked on the conversion of a Gupta SQLBase application to Powerbuilder as well as developing Powerbuilder/Oracle systems for tax applications.

AVON PRODUCTS (Independent Consultant) 1992 - 1995

Supplied DB2, Oracle DBA and programming expertise in the logical design, data modeling (ERWin), physical design and performance issues to application development groups, as well as suggesting performance and tuning recommendations to the DBA and systems programming areas. Aided Human-Resources area in implementation of client/server technology. Provided ACCESS, VISUAL BASIC, and POWERBUILDER support to several development groups as well as designing, coding, and implementing GUI systems for tailored management tasks. Designed and coded a Powerbuilder/Sybase system to manage employee education and training.

MANUFACTURERS HANOVER TRUST /CHEMICAL BANK (Independent Consultant) 1982 - 1993

Delivered both DBA and systems programming skills in a large corporate environment. Responsibilities included: implementation, maintenance, and performance monitoring of IMS (under CICS), DB2, QMF, and related program products. Also involved in the data modeling and database design of IMS and DB2 systems, migration planning for product upgrades, application support and training, and end user education.

THE NEWYORKHOSPITAL (Independent Consultant) 1989 - 1990

Provided both IMS and DB2 DBA and systems programming skills in a large medical complex utilizing CICS with data sharing support via DBRC and IRLM.

CHASE MANHATTAN BANK N.A. (Independent Consultant) 1988 - 1988

Installed IMS DB/DC for a restructured data center. Created and performance tested new job streams for the control region, message processing regions, IRLM region, and DBRC. Designed procedures for the migration of IMS applications to DBRC control.

BELL TELEPHONE LABORATORIES (Independent Consultant) 1981 - 1982

Designed and coded an IMS/DC based analog of SMP4 for Bell System companies. The functions performed by this package replaced the editing facilities of TSO and the install and audit features of SMP4. An adjunct assignment was that of IMS troubleshooter and quality assurance coordinator.

SALOMON BROTHERS (DBA / IMS Systems Programmer) 1979 - 1981

Assignments focused on logical and physical database design with emphasis on secondary indexing and IMS logical relationships. Other responsibilities included the design and implementation of recovery / restart procedures, IMS/DC system generation, and assisting programmers in IMS DB/DC coding.

CITY OF NEWYORK (FISA) (IMS Data Base Administrator) 1978 - 1979

Provide DBA skills such as log accumulation, image copy, forward recovery, batch backout, SMU-II, and data base reorganization.

EQUITABLE LIFE ASSURANCE (Applications Programmer) 1975 - 1978

Coded COBOL programs for large pension valuation systems with an emphasis on analysis eventually replacing coding tasks.
