Kent Fire and Rescue Service’s (KFRS) Community Safety teams offer a diverse range of fire safety, road safety and water safety advice through various interventions with children, young adults and residents of Kent and Medway.
KFRS also have seven dedicated safeguarding officers delivering the essential awareness to their staff and partner agencies.
This includes:
Youth Engagement:
Our Youth Engagement programmes offer vulnerable young people the opportunity to attend and participate in Fire and Rescue Service courses, which cover the topics of road safety, home fire safety, arson and anti-social behaviour:
• Accredited BTEC qualification which is very practical and also develops skills such as social awareness, attitudes and behaviours whilst rebuilding individuals self esteem.
• Pathways
• Alternative Engagement Model
• Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN)
• British Safety Council and St John Ambulance
The Youth Engagement Team work in partnership with other agencies to achieve successful change.
Vulnerable People
The vulnerable team look to provide a reassuring service to both the public and members of KFRS who may have encountered someone who may have been identified as being vulnerable either through operational incidents or HSVs. The team work closely with other agencies such as Social Services, Mental Health teams, Local authorities, Housing associations and the Police to put high risk intervention measures in place, often at very short notice. They can offer a more detailed HSV and have the following items readily available:
• Fire Retardant Bedding Packs (single or double)
• Fire Retardant Blankets
• Alarms suitable for those with hearing and visual problems
• Cooker switches
• Fire Retardant Sprays
• Letter Box sealing
Firesetters
The Firesetters Advisory Scheme aims to influence the behaviour, actions and attitudes of children and adolescents by providing early intervention to those who have set fires or display a fascination with fire.
With the consent of the individuals' parent/guardian, a number of advisors are available to respond to referrals which may be received from Social Services, Kent Police, schools, fire stations, youth groups and parents themselves.
Assisted by fire prevention workbooks, case studies and visual presentations, advisors engage with the individual and encourage them to fully understand the consequences of their actions.
We are offering the opportunity to find out more about our services via the MSCB taster sessions if you would like to attend.
