Job Purpose / Deliver and report on a range of environmental assessments and surveys and effectively contribute to the on-going development of their wider programmes.
Hours of Business / Core hours 9am - 5pm
Location / Belfast Office and NI Wide
Hours per week / 30 hours
Salary / £17,160pro rata
Term / Permanent, subject to on-going funding

Keep Northern Ireland Beautifulseeks to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic Local Environmental Quality (LEQ) Assessor to effectively deliver and report on a range of environmental assessments and surveys across NI. Locations to be assessed include streets, beaches, schools, parks and businesses. The post holder will be expected to complete all assessments and surveys in a timely manner, in line with the expected standards and to accurately and effectively report on their work. The post holder will also contribute to the overall development of programmes and to Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful’s aim of working towards positive behavioural change. This post requires an individual who canconsistently apply standardised criteria, enjoys routine and is willing to travel to various locations across NI on a regular basis.

CONTRACT

This is a permanent contract but, as with all posts, is subject to ongoing funding. Salary will be paid monthly, in arrears.

Duties and Expected outcomes

As well as completing assessments and surveys the LEQ Assessor will be responsible for contributing to the overall development of relevant programmes. Travel to different parts of Northern Ireland will be required to complete assessments and surveys on a frequent basis. Access to a suitable means of transport,allowing efficient delivery of the role, is essential.

  1. SURVEYS & ASSESSMENTS
  • Successfully complete all training required to deliver surveys and assessments in line with the expected standards.
  • Delivera range of assessments and surveys across a number of Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful’s Local Environmental Quality programmes including: the Northern Ireland Marine Litter Surveyand other surveys and assessments as required to monitor local environmental quality in Northern Ireland including but not limited to the following programmes:
  • Northern Ireland Litter Survey;
  • Green Flag for open spaces;
  • Eco-Schools;
  • Blue Flag for Beaches and marinas;
  • Seaside Awards;
  • Green Coast Awards; and
  • Tidy Business.
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained and timely completion of local and international reporting duties.
  • Input data using spread sheets and electronic systems as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough records of all work undertaken.
  • Prepare detailed individual location and overall management reports as required.
  • Ensure timely completion of reporting duties.

B. ASSISTING LOCAL ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY (LEQ) PROGRAMMES

  • As required, represent Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful at conferences and meetings relating to all relevant work.
  • Assist in delivery of other LEQ programmes not specifically listed.
  • Assist in the development of new partnerships with relevant sectors to grow the programmes.
  • Work with and provide liaison, facilitating meetings as required, to all participating organisations.
  • Assist in maximising publicity for the programme.
  • Where required, assist in the delivery of events eg awards events.

C. ADMINISTRATION

  • Maintain accurate records and data to effectively and accurately report back on all areas of work.
  • Cover all general office duties.
  • Respond to all general enquiries.
  • Respond to specific enquires that require a technical answer.
  • Other administrative tasks required to support the overall development and delivery of the programmes.

d. Targets

  • Successfully complete all training required to deliver surveys and assessments in line with the expected standards.
  • Deliver all assessments and surveys in a timely manner and in line with the expected standards.
  • Maintain records and input data accurately.
  • Prepare accurate, structured and well-written reports on work.
  • Ensure that good relationships with stakeholders are established and maintained.
  • Assist in other duties as may be required from time to time.

General Information

The person appointed will be based in an office in Belfast though will frequently be required to work across NI. They will work closely with other Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful staff.

IT support is provided for all staff to enable them to be efficient and effective in their work.

Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful operates a 37.5 hour week, office hours being broadly 9am to 5pm.Your normal days of work will be Monday to Friday but some flexibility is required to ensure the effective delivery of the role, which may require working different days/times from time to time.

This is an important role in a small organisation and, given the nature of the work, on occasion you will be required to operateoutside of your normal working hours, particularly with regard to completing assessments and surveys in a timely manner e.g. according to tides/locations.

PERSON Specification

Qualifications, skills and experience

Essential

  • A relevant degree level qualification eg environmental management systems/environmental auditing or at least two years’ demonstrable experience of working in environmental auditing or assessments.
  • Experience in report writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and oral.
  • Full current driving licence and/or access to a suitable means of transport to enable you to carry out the duties and responsibilities.
  • Well-developed ICT skills, especially using the Microsoft Office suite.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in the voluntary sector.
  • Membership of a relevant professional organisation.
  • Experience of environmental assessments or surveys.

Knowledge & Understanding

Essential

  • Knowledge of environmental issues.

Desirable

  • An understanding of how local government is administered and its services delivered.
  • Knowledge ofenvironmental management audits/assessment processes.
  • Keen analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of the business sector.
