Keen Talk for a Swanky Age

Directions: Follow the below steps to create a skit using AT LEAST EIGHT1920’s slang words to be performed in class tomorrow.

Step 1:Review Roles

  • Director - You will select the slang expressions to be used. Lead the brainstorming discussion on ideas for the 1920’s skit and participate in the skit
  • Skit writer (2) –Helps brainstorm ideas for the 1920’s skit. Writes the script for the skit. Participates in the skit
  • Stage Manager - Helps brainstorm ideas for the 1920’s skit. Lists and gathers any props you may need. Participates in the skit.

Step 2: Examine Slang Expressions

  • Carefully examine all eight slang expressions that the director selected. Make sure all group members understand the meaning of each expression. Ask me to clarify if needed.

Step 3: Brainstorm Ideas for the skit

  • You must create a 2 to 3 minute skit that brings to life a scene set in the 1920’s. Draw upon your knowledge of what we have covered so far to think of scenes people may have been in. Your skit must incorporate all eight slang expressions and make the audience feel as if they stepped back in time to the Roaring 20’s. *Don’t just say the slang words, make the audience understand how that word is actually being used.*

Step 4: Create the Skit

  • Have the skit writers, with input from everyone else, create a script for the skit. Ask me to review it to ensure it is ok. Make sure all group members have copies of their lines.

Step 5: Incorporate Authentic Touches

  • List, make or gather props, costumes, music or sounds to make your skit as authentic and entertaining as possible. Have someone bring them tomorrow. *You may use jazz music or something as background music while you do your skit. YouTube songs will be acceptable as long as they are appropriate.*

Step 6: Rehearse Skit

  • Make sure all group members understand their parts and can clearly and dramatically recite their lines. Rehearse the skit so you can present them smoothly and clearly tomorrow. You will be allowed to read your lines during your skit tomorrow, but I don’t want you just staring at your lines the entire time.

Expectations

  • Everyone has roles of similar length in the skit
  • The skits are between 2 and 3 minutes and all eight slang terms are used and understood by the audience
  • That you HAVE FUN with this!!
