Course Description:

This course continues audio and digital video editing introduced in Introduction to Multimedia. This hands-on course applies publishing and presentation concepts through the development of sophisticated business documents and projects. Students will develop communication skills, problem solving techniques, cooperative learning, and interpersonal skills. Students will be involved with the production of “The Purple Vision”, the school on-line news broadcast.

The following software programs will be used in developing educational and real-world projects:

  • Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • iLife Suite: iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, Garage Band, iPhoto, iTunes, etc.
  • Adobe Master Suite: Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, Flash, etc.
  • Final Cut Studio 2: Final Cut Pro 6, Motion 3, etc.

Materials Used

Internet: Internet resources will be utilized to enhance instruction. Students will use the Internet to conduct research, to access Software Manuals, to access Tutorials, and to learn about multimedia related concepts.

Supplies

A 4 GB - USB flash drive is recommended for saving photos, graphics, audio files and other electronic documents.

Grading

A total point system is used to calculate grades. Points are distributed according to the difficulty of the assignment.

A = 90-100

B = 80-89

C = 70-79

D = 60-69

F = 59 and below

*Courses with grades of less than a “C” will not count toward a certificate or be eligible for dual credit.

Procedures for Makeup Work/Tests

Good attendance in this class is expected so that production deadlines can be met. Students are responsible in meeting deadlines and should notify the teacher if they know ahead of time they will be out of the classroom. Students should contact the teacher by phone or e-mail to notify the teacher of unexpected absences. If an assignment is due on the date of absence, the student may have to secure someone to complete his or her assignment or duties. Any extension needed to complete a project needs to be discussed with the teacher as soon as it is know that there is a possibility of missing the deadline. If a student is unable to complete an assignment one week due to absences, it will be expected that he or she will need to perform an additional assignment or work the following week.

  • FBLA is a co-curricular organization for students enrolled in a business course.
  • FBLA is a wonderful organization where leadership and community service involvement can be developed.

  • STLP is a school-wide club for student interested in technology.
  • STLP is a wonderful program that gives students an opportunity to gain leadership through participating in projects for the school and community.

Class expectations/Rules

  1. No FOOD, DRINK and/or GROOMING ITEMS at the computers or in the studios.
  2. Be courteous and respectful of others & school property.
  3. Maintain a quiet and productive work environment.
  4. Notify the teacher when your equipment is not working properly.
  5. Return all equipment and cords when you are finished for the day.
  6. No PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES, games, personal e-mail, no personal web-surfing, no Face Book or YouTube, only websites related to class & approved by the teacher.
  7. Print only school related items (no personal printing) and throw away all trash.
  8. Logout and leave the computer ready for the next person to use. Do not change computer settings (screen savers, etc.) Keep files organized in locations specified by the teacher.
  9. Stay in your seat until the bell rings and push in your chairs as you leave.
  10. Take your belongings with you when you leave the classroom.
  11. Excellent attendance is expected in this class. Be sure to be prompt and ready to begin class on time.
