June Program:

Our speaker for the June 10th meeting will be Ms. Molly Kent. Ms. Kent will tell us about the history of the USS Arizona’s Last Band. Her brother was one of the 21 members of the ship’s band. All of the band members perished in the sinking of that great ship. She has traced the history of each of the ship’s band members and will tell us their story this weekend.

In Memoriam:

In my most recent issue of the Greater Kansas City Medical Bulletin, I came across this very impressive obituary of one of our recently departed members. I thought that I would include it for all to read on the back of this newsletter. (Made me feel guilty about not paying my dues to Metro Med on time.)

Announcements:

--Compatriot George Hicks has been busy trying to procure funds to secure land surrounding the grave of Daniel Boones’ son. He and other preservationists are hoping to turn the area, located on a hill above 63rd street, into an educational park. Keep up the great work compatriot Hicks. An article on his efforts was in the Metropolitan section of April 10ths’ K.C. Star.

--Don’t forget that Flag Day is June 14th! Also Father’s Day is June 18th.

--The 2001 Missouri SAR annual meeting will be held next April in Kansas City! For those of you who like to plan well in advance, now is the time to start planning to go. The meeting is always held on the last weekend of April.

--The new motion picture “The Patriot”, set during the Revolutionary War and starring Mel Gibson, will be released in theaters on June 30th.

--The Alexander Majors Chapter now has its own web-site!!! Many thanks to Randall Osborn for designing the new site. Our new web address is: Please log on and give it a try.

--One last time, I am still in need of volunteers to submit a brief history of their Revolutionary War ancestors for publication in the newsletter. These can be as brief or as detailed as you would like. Please bring a copy of your patriot’s history to this week’s meeting or send it to me at my address below. Thanks in advance for your participation.
