August 7, 2012

The meeting was called to order at 9:01am by Chair Harlan Madsen. ADJOURNED at 9:21am

Motion made by Shuck and supported by Larson to approve minutes of the last meeting…passed unanimously.

I.  AGREEMENTS/CONTRACTS

A.  Corinne Torkelson, Supervisor, presented the contract with Rice Memorial Hospital for providing mental health acute care. There is an increase in the rates for this two-year contract. For the next two years, the daily rate will be $1,000 Monday through Friday and $750 Saturday, Sunday and holidays. The mentioned rate includes: room rate, program charges, medications, physician’s time, psychological testing, and other testing or lab work. Corinne added. that Rice Memorial Hospital has been very involved and has had very difficult clients.

Motion made by Larson and supported by Madsen to approve the contract as presented for Rice Memorial Hospital…passed unanimously.

II.  GENERAL BUSINESS DISCUSSION

A.  Ann Stehn, Interim Director, gave an update in regards to the Southern Prairie Health Purchasing Alliance (SPHPA). The meeting that occurred on July 27th was a turning point. All 12 counties have signed joint powers agreements. The first official Joint Powers meeting is scheduled for August 24th. Officers will be elected at this first Joint Powers meeting.

The name is expected to change to Southern Prairie Community Care (SPCC). This name will not be official until voted on by the joint powers on August 24th.

Healthy Choice/Easy Choices grant abstract was discussed. The grant was applied for and will be used to address the obesity rates, food deserts as well as those with diabetes or pre-diabetes. This is a substantial Federal grant that SPCC has applied for to help the populations within the 12 participating counties.

Mary Fischer continues to be doing a great job and is connecting with health care providers in one-to-one meetings.

III.  COMMENTS OR UPDATES

A.  Ann Stehn provided some updates and comments in regards to the public health. The Kandiyohi County Fair is this week and Kandiyohi County Public Health along with Drug Free Communities has a booth at the fair. The booth has a theme reflecting 75 years of public health in Kandiyohi County. Many historical documents will be on display.

BE IT RESOLVED, that the foregoing record is a true and accurate recording of the official actions and recommendations of the County Board and as such constitutes the official minutes thereof.
