RE: INVITATION TO SAIDE SECONDARY SCHOOL DEBATE

SAIDE Community is a community-based organizationinvolved in various initiatives including running a Community Library. We are driven by pursuit of a literate community for sustainable socio-economic development, focusing on students to help us achieve this goal.

It is on this note that we are pleased to invite you to SAIDE’S Sixth Secondary School Debateon1stJuly 2017 at Keveye Girls Secondary School. The topic will be released on 17th June in the topic area of politics and/or education.

Through this debate we aim to nurture our pupils in developing the ability to analyze topics, select and evaluate evidence, and construct and refute arguments. Consequently, their comprehension and communication skills shall be improved and this will reflect positively on their academic performance.

Additional Tournament Information

Teacher Training

We will be holding a Debate Instructor Training Program on 17th June 2017 from 8am-4pm at Keveye Girls Secondary School. We request that at least one teacher from each school is in attendance at the event and lunch will be provided.

Format

We will be using a Public Forum Debate format, consisting of two-person teams that must be prepared to debate both sides of the topic.

Judging Requirements

We aim to have as many high-qualified judges as possible. Schools are required to provide a judge for every 2 PFD teams or fraction thereof. Teachers are welcome to judge, but will not be eligible to judge any of their students’ rounds. All judges not trained prior shall attend Judge Training from 7-8am the morning of the tournament

Fees

We aim to make the tournament as affordable and accessible for all, so fees simply go to subsidizing the costs of teacher training lunch, tournament lunch, certificates and awards.
