Recognises and addresses pressure points (both inside and outside Wintec) and empowers the student to manage these pressure points in a healthy way.
Identifies and applies the best approach and practice for supporting students.
Contributes positively to improved student retention, outcomes and results, progression, and increased re-enrolments.
Provides support towards students' holistic needs, including motivational discussions, learning pathways and career development plans
Identifies behavioural fluctuations that occur during adolescence and uses behaviour management strategies to manage these within the learning environment.
Raises students' self awareness, knowledge and appreciation of their skills, values and beliefs.
Proactively seeks out at-risk learners, coordinates and implements customised support plans in conjunction with tutors
Reporting and Student Feedback / Encourages students to reflect on their own intentions, behaviour and practice, and to develop effective skills for lifelong learning.
Documents contact in relation to students, in centralised database
Participates in teaching team and Programme Committee meetings as required.
Makes efficient use of Wintec-based technologies to complete administrative tasks in a timely and professional manner.
Monitors and coordinates an attendance plan in collaboration with the tutor/s and administration staff.
Proactively gathers, collates, analyses and communicates student and stakeholder feedback.
Escalates potential risks or issues, where appropriate.
Academic Support / Provides learning support for students and develops learning programmes on an individual and group basis using flexible modes of delivery with a focus on Pasifika learners and ways of learning.
Identifies learning support needs for students and arranges appropriate action.
Prepares, develops and identifies learning resources to support students and to meet their needs as required.
Provides tutorials and workshops with appropriate departments to assist students as required.
Models sound educational practice.
Health and safety management accountabilities are understood and applied. Individual and staff H&S outcome and objectives are reviewed at least annually. / Significant hazards in the area of responsibility are identified, documented and reviewed annually or as new hazards emerge.
Significant hazards are eliminated, isolated and/or risk minimised.
Staff in the area of responsibility are involved in the hazard management process.
Relevant H&S training is identified and completed for key staff and those with specific job/training requirements.
Work accidents and incidents are reported as soon as possible after occurrence; investigation reports are completed and recommendations considered.

Competency Specification
Education / training / A degree qualification or equivalent experience.
Administrative skills, including a reasonable standard of computer literacy.
An adult teaching qualification desirable.
Experience / Previous pastoral care experience in the tertiary sector, including working with youth, Maori and Pasifika, and adults returning to study.
Demonstrated understanding of the needs of at-risk students (especially youth) and effective engagement strategies.
Typical knowledge, skills and attributes / Able to exercise judgement in problem solving.
Ability to be innovative, to question the status quo and to adapt to changing circumstances.
Ability to use initiative.
Highly developed interpersonal and relationship skills.
