KABA Committees

  1. KABA Legal Clinic (Lia Hyunji Kim-Yi/Jaesang Lee)
  2. provides initial consultations to the Korean, Latino, and other ethnic American communities of Chicago regarding their legal matters. The legal clinic advises on many issues facing these communities, including those related to immigration, real estate, family law,bankruptcy, criminal law and victim rights, and general litigation.
  3. Clinic focuses on advising walk-in community members on whether or not to seek legal assistance. Clinic does not require representation but merely counseling
  4. Legal advice primarily in family/immigration law, but each question is matched to the appropriate attorney by the Clinic’s Director so the attorney has some familiarity with the legal topic
  5. First Thursday of every month at KACS location in Chicago)

  2. Develop, coordinate and execute KABA’s marquee event, the Annual Banquet

  2. Opportunity for Korean women attorneys to cross brand and network
  3. Plan events for KWN
  1. Committee: Membership Directory(Kyle Shires)
  2. Cultivate and maintain KABA’s membership directory/databank of over 400 KABA members
  1. Committee: Networking/Social Committee (Eric Choi)
  2. Provide social and networkingopportunities for our members.
  3. Plan social events such as happy hour, summer picnic and golf outing
  4. Outreach with other civic organizations such as KACS, KAN-WIN, AAAJ

  2. Communicate with membership and the community through social media and announcements
  3. Draft and send listserv announcements
  4. maintain Facebook and other social media
  5. maintain website to reflect KABA’s current activities
  6. identify and investigate additional social media and communications opportunities
  1. Committee: Judicial Development (Sunny Sohn)
  2. To develop KABA's policy on supporting and evaluating judicial candidates
  3. Prior administration has created the skeleton of committee
  4. Committee is required to finalize the judicial evaluation guidelines
  5. Committee will evaluate candidates for judicial position and present recommendation to the Board
  6. Committee to coordinate with AABA regarding Cook County judicial evaluations

  2. Created and sustain the KABA relationship with its student liaisons (currently 4 from 4 different schools) and regional law schools
  3. Coordinate with Mentorship Committee

  2. Identify and provide professional development opportunities for our members. Goal is one totwo CLEs per year.
