K-Fashion Going Global with Google

- Seoul Design Foundation page to be created in Google’s online fashion exhibition platform, the largest one in the world.

- Seoul Design Foundation and Seoul Fashion Week to offer various contemporary fashion contents through the online platform.

Many designers participated in and were honored by Seoul Fashion Weeks so far, and their collections and archives are now made accessible to the world through a cyberspace created by Google, anytime, anywhere.

Seoul Design Foundation announced that, as a part of the Foundation’s ‘We Wear Culture’ project (www.google.com/wewearculture), it worked with Google to launch the Seoul Design Foundation Page on the 9th to supply K-fashion contents.

Google Art & Culture is carrying out ‘We Wear Culture’ project (an online exhibition) in collaboration with some 180 organizations in the world, to offer the world’s largest virtual exhibition of 3,000 years of history of fashion. The exhibition under this project was opened to the world on the 9th this month (KOR time).

In this project, Seoul Design Foundation (the organizer of Seoul Fashion Week) will introduce history and main programs of Seoul Fashion Week; and offer the collections of designers who participated in and exhibition archives of designers honored by Seoul Fashion Week, which used to be accessible only by offline participation.

Fashion experts from all segments of Korean fashion industry took part in the efforts to select the contents that will best present K-fashion’s creativity and potential.

One of such contents, an exhibition named Discover Korean Fashion (directed by Eui-hyang Kim, the Representative Director of K-Note and the former Fashion Editor of Vogue Korea), presents the story of Seoul’s 10 Soul (an incubating project for talented Korean designers).

Exhibition ANTHOLOGY (directed by Young-hee Seo, an art director), celebrates the 50th anniversary of Tae-ock Jin (a designer honored by Seoul Fashion Week), introducing some 80 pieces of clothes selected from Jin’s own archives and 10 keywords that represent Jin, the fashion designer.

Exhibition TACTUS-Touch (directed by Hye-ja Han, a designer honored by Seoul Fashion Week) summarized 40 years of her career and philosophy as fashion designer.

Other exhibitions are to introduce some 80 pieces of art-to-wear and installation art of and items that brought inspirations to other designers.

All the above contents can be browsed at Google’s We Wear Culture site (www.google.com/wewearculture) and through Arts & Culture mobile app (available from Google Play and App Store).

Seoul Design Foundation is planning to hold an event through Instagram to promote its Google page. You can capture your favorite picture Seoul Fashion Week page at Instagram and share it through your Instagram page. 10 selected participants to this event will win free gifts. For more information on this event, you are invited to visit Seoul Fashion Week page at Instagram (@seoulfashionweek_official).

Ms. Kim Yoon-hee, the Head of Division, Fashion & Creative Industry Division, Seoul Design Foundation, said “we will continue to work together with Google to develop and introduce various fashion contents, so that everyone will experience and witness the creativity of K-fashion.”

Mr. Amit Sood, Director of Google Art & Culture, explained the meaning of this project saying, “what is special about this exhibition is that you can listen to the stories about fashion through your smartphones and notebooks. The jeans you are wearing and the black dress you have in your closet have in fact a few centuries of histories. What we are wearing right now is the culture and art.”
