Sensitization of Material: None known
Carcinogenicity, Reproductive Effects, Teratogenicity, Mutagenicity: Limited evidence for the
carcinogenicity of crystalline silica to humans
Section 7- Personal Protection –Respiratory
Respiratory protection should be used whenever dust is generated. Use ministry of Labour
respirator requirements for silica dust exposure
Eye Protection: Safety Glasses
Engineering Controls: Exhaust dust concentrations to acceptable levels by use of proper
Ventilation such as dust collectors, cyclones, etc.
Spill procedure: Clean up in a manner to control airborne dust. Whenever possible, wet
down area with water to control dust
Waste Disposal: Review current regulations. Can be used as a fill material
Handling and Storage: Handle and store in a manner to control dust.
Other Precautions: None
Section 8- First Aid
Inhalation: Move victim to fresh air. Obtain medical advice
Skin: Wash with soap and water
Eyes: Wash eyes with lukewarm water. If irritation continues seek medical advice.
Ingestion: Seek medical advice if necessary
Other Information: None known
Section 9- Preparation Date of M.S.D.S.
Additional Information: Use good housekeeping techniques. Only the respirable silica between 0.5-5.0 microns is dangerous to the respiratory system. Smoking and lung disorders may aggravate the effects of exposure.
