a.Discuss the Grievance against Andrew Hardegen by the Choong Family
Complaint:
Sim Choong has raised a grievance against Andrew Hardegen concerning postings on the now-retired WACHESS.ORG.AU forum site. These postings seem to stem from the rating given to various postings made by Andrew, which he attributes to Yita Choong.
Sim considers that Andrew is in breach of our Code of Conduct and should be removed from his CAWA Office of Tournament Coordinator. He further requests that Andrew should take no part in the running of the Xmas Open and says that it would be better to cancel the tournament than to have him involved.
Entered: two emails from Sim Choong.
Hayden Barber moved that the CAWA Council did not and does not endorse the comments made by Andrew Hardegen. Furthermore the CAWA has no control or affiliation with the WACHESS.ORG.AU forum.
Seconded by Jack South. In Favour Natalie Thomas and Gaynor Wood.
Furthermore it was decided that Haydn Barber would contact other council members who were not present, before the motion be carried and then decide what course of action would be taken.
In anticipation that this motion would be carried an action plan was then discussed.
Action to be taken
Andrew Hardegen would be given an official warning and his role as a CAWA council member would be monitored. Furthermore the CAWA Council would recommend that he apoligise to the Choong Family personally.
The Choong’s would be contacted and informed of the motion and action to be taken.
b. Junior GP Trophies
Haydn Barber moved that a budget of $1,100 should be allowed for the purchase of trophies. Seconded by Gaynor Wood. All in favour.
There is also an outstanding account of $600 to be paid to the trophy supplier.
- CAWA Wind-Up
Haydn Barber moved that an amount of $500 be allowed for food and drinks as there could be as many as 80 members turn up. Seconded by Jack South. All in favour.
Gaynor and Natalie will arrange for catering of the event and were given the $500 to do so.
- Australian Junior Arrangements
Coaching – Haydn will contact Darryl Johansson.
Haydn is organizing pre Sydney coaching.
Confirmed Squad – Caleb, Tayla, Yitta, Chris, Amy. Shyam, Ben and George will be contacted by Haydn to make a final decision.
Gaynor will contact Dennis Holland re his fundraising.
- Education Expo – 16th and 17th of July 2008 – Robinson Pavilion.
This would be great exposure for Chess in WA so it was decided to fully support this event. It was suggested that the Junior Allegro be played at this event. This will be discussed further at the next meeting.
- Transplant Games
The CAWA will support this event, as it will be good exposure for WA Chess.
- Sausage Sizzles at GP Tournaments
Chris Thurtell and Lyn Kelly have very kindly offered to carry on with this fundraiser. The profits will be held in trust by the CAWA and the two above-mentioned ladies, along with their helpers will decide what the funds are used for. A few ideas put forward were: junior coaching and Junior State Team.
