Monday, June 29, 2015 New Fairfield Baseball Honorary Board Member Committee

Report Members: B. Farrell, S. DelCampo, P. Gantert Purpose: Examine possibility of establishing a "Honorary Board Member" position within New Fairfield Baseball. To recognize individuals who have made a substantial contribution to the organization which has significantly improved the health and wellbeing of the organization. Background: Many nonprofit organizations boast lists of honorary trustees, board members and/or directors. And the vast majority of those named individuals are “there” in name only. There are two basic reasons why a person gets the “honorary” title. S/he may have been of great service to the organization and/or the people it serves; or, s/he may be very well known, respected and influential but has done little or nothing for the organization. The former is a traditional, valid way to recognize and give recognition to a person’s service … while, at the same time, signaling to others that they could get the same kind of recognition if they, too, provided major service to the organization and its constituency. The latter is based on the belief that recruiting those big “names” to add to the letterhead will add credibility to the organization’s activities and/or that by adding a VIP’s name to your “honorary list” it will motivate that person to become an active leader/ donor. If you have someone on your letterhead who, by virtue of that listing is perceived as a leader/supporter of your organization but does not lead, support or donate, you make your potential leaders/donors question why they should. Recommendation of Committee: The committee recommends the establishment of a "Honorary Board Member" which is ceremonial in nature only and adheres to the below listed criteria for consideration and selection. In addition this committee recommends that all "Honorary Board Members" be given NO voting rights on any New Fairfield Baseball matters. "Honorary Board Members" shall have the same rights and privileges of any member of the public and will not receive any special favors or privileges. 1 Monday, June 29, 2015 Criteria: An Honorary Member shall be a person who has demonstrated “distinguished service that contributes significantly to the goals of New Fairfield Baseball (NFB)”. While this definition may sometimes imply career-long dedicated activity, that alone is not adequate for this level of membership. In addition to the above the applicant must have: 1. Eight years of continuous service to New Fairfield Baseball ( this will allow us to consider non board members for their service) and, 2. Have good morale character (No felony arrest etc....) and 3. Have made a significant contribution to NFB to improve the organization in a substantial way. Nomination and selection requirements: Must be nominated by 3 board members Go before board vote and have 66 2/3% approval vote (16 out of 24 votes)

Next meeting – August 5th
