SPECIAL PRESENTATION (Conference Call):
Chuck Van Huizen from Community Safety Net was a guest presenter and spoke to Members about his Drug Safety Resource Book for 7thand 8thgrade students and their families. After contacting the police department and the middle school principal, he was referred to the Chamber as a possible source for partnership funding. Trisha Broughton was contacted as a representative of the Chamber and coordinated the connection. Chuck told members he would be launching the program in the fall and was looking for business partners to make donations. After hearing about the program and a short Q & A exchange, Members discussed concerns such as why he did not contact the school district first. There was concern that it would conflict with the research-based “Life Skills” program currently being used in the district. Information will be shared to allow further evaluation support, both funding and use of the product.
NEW BUINESS:
Field Repair:
Bids were requested to repair the drainage configuration in the lot between Alfy’s and IGA. Only one proposal was received; Roadrunner Services a bid for $1,943.94 . One more proposal is expected from Tim Eddy of Eddy’s Elite Enterprises. Jude reported that Mike Trask will contact the property owner (Rob Hill) regarding participating in the cost of the repairs. Jude suggested tabling a decision until after the Board has a chance to review it further at the upcoming Board meeting. Laura Williams questioned the need for Chamber involvement if the owner is paying for the repair. Jude explained that we would be choosing and coordinating the contractor and were involved because of our use of the property for Chamber events. It was agreed it would be good to get the field ready for Mountain Loop Experience since the Safety Fair will be using that area, but it is not critical. Trisha Broughton will check with City regarding permits.
