JR. RED DEVILS FLAG FOOTBALL RULES
GRADES 3rd-4th
1)Teams will consist of 6-8 players per team.
2)Games consist of two 20 minute halves with a 5 minute half time.
3)Games will be played on fields 24 yards wide and 50 yards long.
4)All games will be played at Ridge High School.
5)Games will start with a coin toss.
6)Ball always starts on the 5 yard line. The offensive team then has 4 downs to get the ball to mid-field and then 4 downs to score. If either of these are not accomplished the ball moves to the opposing team’s 5 yard they go on offense.
7)The ball must be snapped by a center to the designated quarterback. If ball is snapped to any other player, play will be whistled dead and loss of down.
8)The center is considered an eligible receiver.
9)There is no rushing of the QB.
10)Man to Man pass defense only. No Zone Pass Defense.
11)The QB must pass the ball within a 5 count. If he does not, the whistle will blow and this will be considered a “Sack” and a loss of down.
12)This is a passing game. The ball must be thrown over the line of scrimmage.
13)No pitch outs or laterals. The QB is the only passer. Penalty: loss of down.
14)Players can not go in motion.
15) Running plays are not allowed
16)The receiver or runner will be down when the flag is in the possession of the defender.
17)Offense must have at least 4 players on the line of scrimmage and must be set for at least one count before the ball is snapped.
18)Interceptions can not be advanced, but will result in a change of possession at the point of the interception and the defense will be awarded 1 point.
19)Scoring is 6 points for a touchdown, 1 point for an extra point, 1 point reception, 1 point interception.
20)Fumbles are a dead ball and count as a down with no loss of possession. The next play will resume at the spot of the fumble. Although, if a fumble occurs between the center and the QB before the 5 count, this will not be considered a fumble, the QB is permitted to pick up the ball and resume play as normal.
21)Downfield blocking is not allowed.
22)Ball must be snapped within 25 seconds from the end of the previous play or it is delay of game and a 5 yard penalty.
23)Each team gets one time out per half.
24)Flags must accessible Ie: outside of shirts, properly spaced and properly attached.
25)No tackling is allowed.
26)All penalties are 5 yards and at the discretion of the referee.
27)Teams play together for 2 games (one week) then players are randomly sorted to form new teams for the following week.
28)All players and coaches must be respectful of all officials, coaches, opposing players and teammates or they well be ejected.
29)All other flag football rules apply. No standings will be kept.
