Mary Alice Goolsby Reagan, age 85, of Ellijay, died Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Oxton Place Senior Living in Rome.

Mary Alice Goolsby was born in 1929 in Macon, to the late Ezell Sammons Goolsby, Sr. and Vera Burney Goolsby. She graduated from Monticello High School and attended the University of Georgia.

Mary Alice moved to Marietta in the early 1950’s, where she raised her two children and served in numerous civic and church organizations including a term as the Chairwoman of the Marietta Junior Women’s Club. It was also in Marietta where she began a highly successful career as an artist, painter and teacher. Her abstract and impressionist art work received national acclaim. While living in Stone Mountain, Mary Alice became President and CEO of Georgia Cycle Supply. She retired to Ellijay in 1996.

Mary Alice loved the North Georgia Mountains and enjoyed many years of exploring new places and new aspects of mountain culture. It was here that her love of landscape design and floral and vegetable gardening was nurtured. Domestic and overseas travel enabled her to pursue her love of snow skiing and adventure, always returning home to continue as an active member of the Cherry Log Christian Church, as well as, the White Path community.

Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Burney Goolsby and Sam Goolsby.

She is survived by her husband, Patrick Reagan of Ellijay; son and daughter-in-law Matt and Diane Mauthe of Clifton, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law Alison and Jim Stein of Dallas, Georgia; grandchildren Eric Mauthe, Timothy Mauthe, Christopher Mauthe, Beverly Clark, Jacki Kilborne, Kym Seaborn, Jenni Stein, and Krissi Miller; and ten great grandchildren including James Clark and Reagan Clark.
