THE CELTIC CROSS

Never used to mark the site of a graveyard, the Celtic Christians placed their crosses to mark a place of life.

These great megalithic structures stand as a monument to the engineering and the spiritual integrity of the Christians of the so-called Dark Ages.

Renewing Britain’s Earliest Centre of Learning –

The Galilee Chapel Project

Llanilltud Fawr is a place steeped in history. History, of course, is always in the making, we being the history makers for future generations. As part of the ongoing heritage of spirituality, education and service to the community a major project is underway to refurbish the roofless “Galilee Chapel” for use as a centre of education in Celtic Christian studies and to provide an appropriate exhibition space for the Celtic Christian stones. An archive room, toilets and a tea station will also be provided to facilitate and support an increased community use of the church in welcoming tourists and pilgrims, schools and academic organizations, and local community groups.

Through generous grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund, CADW and others together with local fundraising and community support Phase 1 of the construction project is now underway. However, we continue to seek further sourcesrequired to realise Phase 2.

If you would like to find out more about this special project please visit the website:
