Liberty Elementary School Gym

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Liberty’s 5thgrade students have been working hard learning songs, speaking parts, and movements for the upcoming 5th grade musical on November 22. The performance will take place at 6:30 PM in the gymnasium at Liberty Elementary School. All students are expected to attend. A large portion of each student’sfirst trimester grade is based on preparation for and performance of the musical. If a studentis unable to attend the performance, he/she must bring a parent note to Mrs. Hoover or Mr. Tulkki before November 22. Students may be assigned an additional assignment for music if they are unable to attend the performance.

When should students arrive at school on November 22?

Students should be in the cafeteria at Liberty Elementary, ready to perform,at6:15 PM on performance night. Please wait with your childuntil 6:15. Classroom teachers will meet their students at 6:15in the cafeteria and stay with them until the show begins. Teachers will be helping prepare the stage and set up props and sound equipment prior to 6:15, which is why students will need supervision until that time.

What should students wear to the performance?

Students should dress up for this performance. The celebrities in Lights! Camera! Action! mostly come from a time period referred to as “Hollywood’s Golden Age,” which took place in the middle of the 1900s. Celebrities during this time period, as well as regular people, generally dressed up more and wore more formal clothes than most people do today. A student who is depicting a particular celebrity should try to wear something that is inspired by what his/her celebrity looked like in real life or what the celebrity looked like in one of his/her most famous films. Other students should think about dressing up in clothes that you would wear for a formal event, like a movie premiere. Here are some ideas about what to wear to the performance:

  • Boys: Dress shirt, dress pants, and tie (optional ) or black top and pants
  • Girls: Dress orsolid top with dress pants/skirtor black top and pants/skirt

Please avoid wearing clothes with large logos or words. Please do not stress about creating the perfect costume. Feel free to use clothing that you already own.

How can students practice the musical songs at home?
