CONDITIONS FOR MATCHPLAY ROUNDS

The Johnston Shield Matchplay will be contested between the top 48 qualifying pairs from the Fourball Better Ball with the top 16 receiving a bye.

The draw for the Matchplay will take place on Friday 4th March 2016 in the Castle Bar at 5pm. This will be an ‘open’ draw and will be drawn by Club Captain Richard Hylands.

The match play competition will be played as “Foursomes”using oneball, and taking alternate shots until the hole is completed.Team members also take turns inteeing offon each hole, i.e. one player will take the tee shot on odd-numbered holes, and the other on even-numbered holes.

The handicap allowance for Foursomes will be ‘Half the combined’, e.g. Each pair adds up their handicaps and you work out the difference between the two totals. Divide this difference by two to get the number of shots the higher handicap pair receives from the lower handicap pair.

Ties shall be broken in sudden death, by playing 1st, 2nd holes and so on until one pair wins.

The Matchplay competition shall initially be played over a changed 18 hole winter course, score cards are available in Pro Shop (note indices are different from Winter 12). It is hoped that the course will revert to the normal 18 holes on or around St Patrick’s weekend, signs/notices will advise!

The longest tees available must be used in the match play.

Players are permitted to choose any day they wish on which to play their matches, howeverit is the responsibility of both pairings to arrange to play their match.Players are requested to record a contact telephone number on the draw sheet at the earliest opportunity.

Matches must be played by the date due; only the Match & Handicap Committee may scratch a pairing or a match. In cases of dispute or reasonable request for extra time a member of M & H Committee must be consulted. Requests must not be left until the last week of play.

In order to minimise the loss of days etc the M & H Committee reserve the right to alter the order of play, position of pins and tees etc as is necessary at any time during the competition.
