SUMMER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Professional development is essential and provides teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to implementa quality program. Let’s continue to build a community of learners and provide the youngsters in the BaltimoreCity school district with quality early childhood experiences.

Two professional development sessions have been planned for staff involved in the JHU EIIP project this summer. The first session will be a three-day orientation for all pre-kindergarten through fourth grade teachers who are new to the program. A one-day booster training session has been planned for all PK- 2 teachers previously trained in school year 2005-2006. All teachers will receive written notification of dates and logistics in mid-June. We look forward to seeing you there!

MODIFICATION OF CURRICULAR INSTRUCTIONAL AND SUPPORT MATERIALS

The Center is in the process of revising and integrating content of the PATHS TO PAX curriculum. Staff will collect and organize the binder in smaller units for the fall. Center staff will also provide a Scope and Sequence for the PATHS TO PAX that integrates PATHS lessons with PAX strategies in the fall.

FINAL EVALUATION

Thank you for your feedback on the Mid-Year Evaluation Survey and the wonderful focus group discussions during the January 25th. We would like to meet with each JHU EIIP teacher to summarize the year and address some of your concerns. At this time, we will ask each of you to complete a final evaluationsurvey. We would like to take this opportunity to reflect on your experiences for this school year and to thank you for your participation this school year.

COLLECTION OF PATHS TO PAX MATERIALS

Please return all PATHS TO PAX materialsin a box and tape the provided label on each box. These materials will be stored at a central location identified by your school administrator. If you are not returning to your school in the fall, please return your laptop, case, and attachments to your school administrator at the June check-out. All teachers taking laptops home for the summer must accept full responsibility for the equipment in the case of loss.

Please refer to the Inventory Checklist for a list of all materials distributed last fall. Thanks you for your cooperation.

The PATHS TO PAX program will be correlated with the MSDE Voluntary State Curriculum in the near future. Watch out for this document coming your way!!!!

WEBSITE UPDATED DURING SUMMER BREAK

PATHS TO PAX websitewill be updated during the summer monthsfor project participants. Please log on to read announcements, review documents and chat with fellow JHU EIIP participants throughout the year. The website will also provide links to other early identification and intervention websites.

PARENT TIPS

Fostering Effective Home-School Communication

Please encourage your parents to continue PATHS TO PAX concepts during the summer break. Send parent materials home for students and their parents to work on together this summer.

  • Collect parent/guardian e-mail addresses and provide your e-mail address.
  • Mail a PATHS TO PAX postcard home.
  • Send home end-of-the-year PATHS TO PAX TOOTLE NOTES.
  • Create anend-of-the-yearPATHS TO PAXnewsletter.
  • Encourage families to provide input about their children to next year’s teacher.
  • Encourage families to write TOOTLE NOTES for their children during the summer months.
  • Share PATHS TO PAX portfolios at the end-of-the-year conferences.
