JOB PURPOSE
John Taylor Hospice Birmingham was founded in 1910 and gifted to the NHS in 1948. In 2011 the NHS approved the case for it to become an independent mutual. The Director of Income Generation and Marketing is an Executive Member of the Board and is accountable for the effective provision of developing and leading the income generation and commercial strategy for the organisation, complementing the lead of the Chief Finance Officer in the negotiation of public sector contracts and income.. It is a key role, in the hospice which is a Community Interest Company with a staff membership model. Where a high value is placed upon good governance, evidence based practice, compassion, respect, innovation and kindness.
The job purpose of the Director of Income Generation and Marketing is to implement the organisational strategy by way of managing and developing thefundraising, brand and media and retail teams. Identifying and maintaining themaximum possible support from a wide variety of sources thus ensuring targets areachieved and sufficient income is received to support the activities of the Hospice.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To lead the development and implementation of an income generation strategy that enables John Taylor Hospice to meet itsstrategic objectives. Including the preparation of annual operational plans and budgets for fundraising, retail, marketing and communications, to support the delivery of strategic objectives.
  • To identify opportunities for growth in existing andnew areas of income generation.
  • To direct and lead on all aspects of non-statutory income generation to achieve
agreed targets
  • To line manage staff within the fundraising, brand and media and retail teams ensuring required staffing levels within the teams and inductions and appraisals take place in line with hospice trainingand other policies.
  • To work with the Community Engagement manager in recognising the value of volunteer contribution and play an active part in their recruitmentand development where appropriate.
  • To ensure John Taylor Hospice communicates professionally and effectively in all areas of its operations, both internally andexternally, including the hospice website, social media, publications, print and broadcast media.
  • To act as an ambassador for the hospice, including but not confined to undertaking speaking engagements, actingas a spokesperson with the media, attending hospice events, attending networking events and conferences.
  • To ensure the development promotion and protection of the hospice values and brand.
  • To develop and deliver effective methods of quality assurance, and quality improvement across the range of responsibilities of the post making use of benchmarking and industry standards, including data collection, forall income generating activity promoting the highest standards of practice as laid down by the Fundraising Regulator in the Code of Practice.This will include ensuring that the hospice meets all relevant statutory requirements and industry standards in relation to income generation, including, but not confined to, those of the FRSB, NHSCIC, Information Commissioners Office (ICO) and Gambling Commission, keeping the Chief Executive fully aware of the changes in the law.
  • To develop and deliver effective performance monitoring reports and key performance indicators across all the relevant areas of responsibility on a regular basis, forSMT, Finance and Performance and Charitable trustees and others as required.
  • To develop and maintain active, effective relationships with organisations and individuals who can support the hospice inachieving the income generation objectives, including but not confined to major individual donors, majorcorporate donors, Friends Groups, various media.
  • To effectively manage income generation budgets including the setting and monitoring of income targets and expenditure within the teams, as agreed through the annual budgeting process.
  • To manage complaints and compliments linked to the Fundraising function and provide reports as required.
  • To promote and manage high standards of information governance (IG) and ensure compliance with the NHS Information Governance Toolkit
To advise the Chief Executive, Board and Trustees on all matters relating to income generation, retail and Communications and Marketing.
  • To participate in the overall management of the Hospice as a member of the Senior
Management Team, attending Senior Management Team Meetings and regularly
liaising with other managers as part of a supportive Management Team.
  • To support the effective governance of the hospice by engaging fully with all relevant governance bodiesand processes, including but not confined to the Board of Directors, Charitable Trustees, Finance and Performance Committee,Senior Management Team, Information Governance Steering Group.
  • As a member of Senior Management Team, contribute to effective risk management across the hospice and ensure delivery ofthe risk management strategy, maintaining and developing an environment and culture that improves health, safety and security including ensuring that safeguarding of children and adults is upheld at all times.
  • As a member of the SMT, ensure the hospice meets all statutory and regulatory requirements as a CIC, charity, company, service provider and employer.
  • To take responsibility for one’s own professional development and mandatory training, attending conferences, training, networkingand other events as appropriate.
