Dear JSS Parents,
Fall is here and the weather is beginning to cool off. Thank you for helping get our school year off to a wonderful start.
Ø JSS United Way fundraiser activities for students to donate and raise money for our local programs that United Way supports. Dress up days throughout October & November are for students to dress according to the schedule and donate $1.00 each time to raise monies from the JSS student body. The different dress up days are listed on the calendar.
Ø Character Count Days at JSS will be every Wednesday. The current pillar we are emphasizing during morning announcements is RESPONSIBILITY. Scholars are encouraged to demonstrate and display RESPONSIBILITY at all times. The color is GREEN so if your scholar can remember to wear GREEN on Wednesdays, that would be awesome!!
Ø End of 1st (9) week grading period- Wednesday, Oct. 11th.
Ø 1st Annual JSS Hornet Color Run comes to JSS this year (Friday, Oct. 27th from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm). Parent letters went home with pledge forms. If your child desires to earn a FREE JSS Hornet Run T-Shirt, along with other prizes, they must return their pledge form/ monies no later than Thurs. Oct. 12th. All other pledge forms/monies are DUE by Thurs. Oct. 19th.
Ø Fire Prevention Week observed (Oct. 8th – 14th). The theme this year is: “Every Second Counts…. Plan Two Ways Out”.
Ø JSS Parent Council meeting scheduled- Tuesday, October 17th @ 3:00 pm in the Library. Parents are encouraged to attend and share ideas and volunteer to help out with the many activities we have planned.
Ø Report Cards go home- Wednesday, Oct. 18th.
Ø Early Dismissal (Thurs. Oct. 19th) at 12:00 (noon). Please make plans to pick up your child on time so staff can attend meetings and trainings. Thanks!!
Ø Smart Smiles Dental Clinic will be at JSS on Friday, Oct. 20th. If you want your child to receive dental services, complete and turn in the form to the Nurse’s office.
Ø Awards Assembly scheduled- Tuesday, Oct. 24th. Character Count awards will be handed out for RESPONSIBILITY, along with honor roll for grades 3-5. This year the AR drawings/prizes will be handed out during our morning announcements each nine weeks. At each assembly we will recognize our CC students and parent (grades 1-2 & grades 3-5).
Ø Important notes:
** It is very important to make sure your child knows how they will be getting home each day before they come to school each day. The best plan is to keep it consistent so no one gets confused and the child feels secure. We do our best to get messages to the teacher, sub and others when plans change and we are notified before 2:00, but errors do happen. Thanks for your help in this matter.
** Truancy Court has resumed for unexcused absences and excessive tardies. If you receive an attendance letter, please call the school if that is requested so we can try and intervene BEFORE we have to assign you an appointment to Truancy Court. Excessive morning tardies (8:00 am) and afternoon tardies (1:30) will be counted and assigned to court this year. JSS school hours are from 7:45 am – 2:45 pm. Thanks again for your help and support.
