Disability Rights Compliance Associate & Bookkeeper

1. Purpose:

Bookkeeper: Responsible for the maintenance of the CIL's financial recordkeeping system ensuring integrity of financial records and reports.

Disability Rights Compliance Associate: To assist with the provision of a continuum of consumer and community/independent living based advocacy assistance that enhances opportunities and participation for people with disabilities.

3. Essential Functions - Bookkeeping Position:

• Prepare and process payroll, cash receipts, accounts payable and receivable.

• Maintain physical inventory records.

• Process monthly grant requests.

• Assist with preparation of new employee hiring paperwork and benefits enrollment forms.

• Assist Controller with projects as needed.

Essential Functions – Disability Rights Compliance Associate Position:

• Assist with disability rights educational activities for consumers which encourages self-advocacy.

• Assist with the provision of individual and systems advocacy at local, state and national levels that result in improved access to all aspects of community life for people with disabilities.

• Assist with the provision of technical assistance to public and private entities which encourages compliance with ADA and civil rights oriented laws.

• Assist with the provision of information and referral support to consumers and/or agencies who represent consumers who may be experiencing discrimination.

• Enhance the image of the CIL in person, by telephone and in written communication.

• Complete by deadline, all reports, including, but not limited to: timesheets, vacation, sick leave, compensation time, leave of absence requests, activity reports and grant applications.

• Travel required within the regional service area of the CIL and its satellites.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

4.Behavioral Requirements

• Actively participate in the delivery of services and/or the implementation of public relations, special events, marketing, and fundraising activities, as requested.

• Complete and maintain all Consumer Services Records in compliance with the Federal Quality Assurance Standards and Indicators.

• Model integrity, personal and professional ethics and maintain confidential consumer information.

• Articulate the CIL mission and goals and accurately describes its program services and outcomes.

• Model team work by giving credit where credit is due, accepting responsibility, welcoming input from others and checking with co-workers regularly to ensure that work flows smoothly and lines of communication remain open.

• Maintain a positive working relationship with consumers, co-workers and referral sources which encourages positive referral relationships.

• Maintain a neat and orderly CIL office.

• Demonstrate resourcefulness, initiative and follow through as required for the effective delivery of CIL services.

5. Qualifications:

• Personal experience with disability and/or knowledge of disability issues and the consumer/community-based IL philosophy.

• Knowledge of laws and regulations relating to the rights of people with disabilities desired.

• Education and/or experience relating to bookkeeping principles.

• Good computer and communication skills.

• Commitment to and ability for continuous improvement and mastery of the relevant body of knowledge related to this position.

• Bookkeeping and organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple tasks, prioritize work effectively and use judgment and discretion in decision-making.
