Job Summary

To generate income through Corporate and Community engagement throughout

Henshaws operational area and possible possibly further afield.

The main focus of the role is the development of the Corporate Fundraising discipline within Henshaws, and represents an excellent development opportunity for the right individual. Responsibilities will include the development of new business opportunities into high level partnerships, development of ‘Charity of The Year’ agreements, networking with new and existing contacts and recruiting supporters to our Events and Corporate volunteering opportunities.

Secondly, this role will take overall responsibility for the management of our EventsandCommunity disciplines as required, and will include making strategic decisions with regards to the direction and activities of these disciplines, in addition to preparing plans and budgets for them.

The post holder will line manage and be supported by the Fundraiser based in Manchester and the Community and Events Fundraiser, based in Harrogate.

Key responsibilities

To work with the Fundraising and Marketing Team, Henshaws staff, Trustees and external contacts to increase income within the existing corporate and community portfolio, in line with new objectives being defined within a Society wide fundraising plan.

Corporate

  • Work closely with the Head of Fundraising to develop the existing Corporate Fundraising Strategy, creating a viable work plan and strategic vision for Henshaws’ Corporate Fundraising activity
  • Manage long term relationships with key Corporate supporters to ensure that all opportunities to develop continued support and partnership work are maximised
  • Generate and manage a strong prospect pipeline, identifying, developing and securing new Corporate support to include the identification of potential COTY relationships and matching of Henshaws’ opportunities for engagement to Corporates’ CSR strategies
  • Support Henshaws’ Manchester Corporate Committee in all activity to maximise their achievements, including the management and coordination of their bi-monthly meetings
  • Take overall responsibility for the planning and delivery of the annual Pride of Henshaws Awards Evening
  • Respond effectively and professionally to all new business queries
  • Develop high level creative pitches and proposals
  • Help secure corporate involvement in bespoke corporate fundraising initiatives
  • Work to agreed income and expenditure budgets, helping to prepare budgets and carefully tracking finances on an on-going basis.
  • Deliver against specified performance targets including target income levels for this discipline

Events

  • Take overall ownership and accountability for the development of the existing Henshaws’ Events Strategy ensuring your Teams delivery against key objectives by you and your team
  • Lead on the development of the challenge and sporting events portfolio and provide direction to your team who will be supporting participants of these events
  • Ensure an annual calendar of corporate and community events is developed and promoted to new and existing supporters in a timely manner
  • Assess the success and viability of current and past events on an on-going basis to ensure we are maximising income
  • Take the strategic lead on Henshaws’ annual Bright for Sight campaign, ensuring its future development and success
  • Identify areas for growth

Community

  • Take overall ownership and accountability for the development of the existing Henshaws’ Community Strategy ensuring your Team’s delivery against key objectives
  • Provide effective line management to your team to ensure the maximum financial return on Community fundraising activities and the development of mutually beneficial relationships
  • Manage and develop new and existing community fundraising partnerships and mechanisms to support Henshaws’ fundraising activity
  • Ensure community talks to groups and associations are delivered in a timely professional manner and all enquiries and donations are acknowledged and thanked in line with Henshaws’ processes.

General

  • Line manage the Community and Events Fundraiser based in Harrogate and the Fundraiser based in Manchester
  • Recruit, manage and develop supporters to achieve agreed targets
  • Support all members of the Fundraising Team to secure funding for the Society’s core operational priorities, employing a variety of income generation methods.
  • Ensure data is recorded and kept up to date
  • Represent, as appropriate, the Society at events and other external occasions.
  • Proactively manage relations with individuals and organisations who currently, or have previously, supported the Society in order to secure current levels of giving and wherever possible increase it.
  • Liaise, as appropriate, with staff in other departments throughout the Society in order to collate the necessary information to support the securing of philanthropic gifts.
  • Play a full and active role as a team leader of the fundraising department, including attendance at team meetings.
  • Implement the protocols and procedures of the department and follow best practice as laid down by the Institute of Fundraising.
  • Ensure that the Society’s policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to.
  • Work with colleagues and managers to identify all activities and services required to support fundraising relationships
  • Undertake other duties as required by the Head of Fundraising, which may not be in the job description, but reasonably correspond with the general character of the position and are commensurate with the level of responsibility and authority.

Finance

  • To liaise with the Finance Department, HoF, and the Data & Admin Team Leader in order to develop clear audit processes for all fundraising activities.
  • To be fully aware of and comply with all VAT conditions, data protection and other relevant guidelines and protocols
  • To Bank, appropriately coded income and oversee invoice payments
  • To manage income and expenditure budgets whilst producing monthly reports, trends and analysis as appropriate, with the HoF

Skills and Experience /
  • Significant proven experience working in a professional fundraisingenvironment, preferably across a number of fundraising disciplines
  • Experience working in partnership with companies, preferably in a corporate fundraising environment
  • Experience of generating new business, from prospect identification to securing new deals
  • Exceptional communication skills with demonstrable experience of creative and successful written proposals and pitchestailored to the interests of your audience
  • Confident and convincing when speaking in public to groups of people
  • Finance and budget management experience
  • Excellent relationship-building skillsanda proven ability to network at all levels from Company CEOs to a staff charity committee and volunteers
  • A clear understanding and aptitude for business and commerce and an ability to communicate in such a way
  • Experience and knowledge of research techniques, and their use in a busy fundraising environment.
  • Excellent level of IT skills i.e. experience in using MS Office, including ability to maintain an accurate database
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Professional manner in conduct and appearance.
  • Well organised, with excellent time management skills.

  • Experience of using a fundraising database such as Donorflex or Raiser’s Edge
