Job Summary

The Centre Manager at our Outreach Centrewill enable students through a range of educational opportunities, to gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to engage in the world of work and live a fulfilling and productive life.

They will develop and manage the Centre’s operational activities and lead the staff team in providing a high standard of provision to its users. A key element of the role is employer and community engagement; the post-holder will lead their team in recruiting commercial employers, develop social enterprise activities and develop further opportunities on site for work skills development.

The Centre Manager will deliverhigh quality teaching and learning and lead on the essential evaluation and self-assessment processes to ensure continuous quality improvement. The post-holder will develop and support in-class support staff to continue to challenge learners to push past their boundaries.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and deliver a broad curriculum with the support of Instructors and Enablers to ensure that individual students’ needs are met, monitored and evaluated to a high standard.
  • To lead and manage the Centre’s operational activities and develop strategic implementation plans for the on-going sustainability of the Centre.
  • To lead and develop the development of the Centre as a Social Enterprise
  • 14-16 hours contact time per week with students, both delivering specialist subject and supporting the team through a multidisciplinary approach
  • Direct and monitor in-class support staff, providing guidance and coaching where appropriate, to ensure student learning is being fully facilitated.
  • Line manage, support and conduct supervisions and appraisals of centre staff including absence management and performance management where appropriate.
  • Member of the Pre-entry Assessment Team responsible for the initial assessment process for potential new students in order to inform the development of programmes of delivery
  • Undertake a robust baseline assessment and set appropriately challenging educational targets and outcomes for a designated group ofstudents in line with their individual EHCPs.
  • To be responsible for and develop the presence of Henshaws in the local community and beyond.
  • To ensure effective liaison between the Centre and other services in the College
  • Work alongside the Work experience co-ordinator to promote and support the recruitment of employers to offer work experience to a range of students; plan, organise and lead employer events, attend local, regional and national events in relevant areas; support employers in developing an appreciation of working with students
  • Equip and enable students to access work placements and explore opportunities for sustainable employment outcomes
  • Undertake the oversight, including pastoral care, for a small group of students (8-14)
  • Deliver accredited awards to meeting the awarding body requirementsand non-accredited outcomes as appropriate, and ensure all associated administration is completed to a high standard.
  • Provide information to the Centre team that helps support them in their pastoral role with the students
  • Represent the Centre and report on progress to the relevant committee
  • To be responsible for compliance with all of Henshaws policies and procedures, with particular regard for Health and Safety and Safeguarding and act as the Centres safeguarding lead.
  • Take responsibility for Security of the centre as a key holder
  • Take a flexible approach to working hours according to the requirements of the Centre, which could include some evening and weekend working on occasion.
  • Ensure and support students to adhere to the Code of Conduct
  • Carry out effective administration duties within the role
  • Hold/Attend regular meetings with Instructors and Enablers to review the progress and achievements of students.
  • Attend all Henshaws mandatory and compulsory training sessions, taking responsibility to ensure training is up to date at all times.
  • Take responsibility for your own personal and professional development, including CPD where appropriate.
  • Facilitate training and knowledge sharing across Henshaws Society, and other providers where appropriate.
  • Represent Henshaws in professional manner at all times, contributing to marketing and recruitment activities for Henshaws Society as required.
  • The employee may on occasions be called upon to undertake work in other locations in order to ensure obligations to students, service users and third parties are fulfilled.
  • Comply with Henshaws Health & Safety requirements and be aware of and adhere to current Henshaws policies and procedures.
  • Any other duty as required by the line manager commensurate with the post.
