REPORTS TO:Homeless Services Assistant Manager
EMPLOYMENT STATUS:Non-exempt
TIME COMMITMENT:Part-time, 4-24 hours/week
STARTING SALARY: $10.00-$11.72 per hour
Position Summary
The Van Driver provides safe,reliable and courteous transportation to clients between central Santa Rosa and the Sam Jones Homeless Shelter; and also delivers supplies to shelter as needed. Safety is a top priority for this position.
Essential Functions
- Pick up daily roster of Sam Jones’ clients from the HomelessServiceCenter. Provide rides only to clients who are on the roster.
- Assess riders for sobriety;reject riders who are not clean and sober.
3.Insure riders’ compliance with van safety rules.
4.Consistently drive in a safe manner.
5.Assist clients as needed when loading into van.
6.Operate and maintain the van in such a manner that it is clean and in good running order.
7.Communicate as necessary with Site Coordinators.
8.Be thoroughly familiar with the policies and procedures guiding the work of this position in particular and the program or department overall. Perform job functions in line with these policies and procedures.
9.Participate in training required by accreditation standards, plus performance and quality improvement efforts.
Other Responsibilities
1.Participate in staff meetings and in-service training.
2.Assist with shelter emergencies (i.e. fire evacuation, police intervention, injury reports, etc.)
3.Answer questions from the public in a polite professional manner and direct donations to HomelessServicesCenter.
4.Be well-versed on agency’s homeless programs.
5.Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience & Skills Required
1.Valid California driver’s license (Class B with proper endorsement).
2.Current DMV printout; clean driving record for previous three years.
3.Possess at least state-mandated level of insurance.
4.A minimum of one year’s experience driving a large van strongly preferred.
5.Minimum of one year’s experience working with the homeless community preferred.
6.Attention to detail; ability to maintain records.
7.Experience in problem solving/crisis intervention.
8.Cooperative, friendly, and helpful attitude with clients and co-workers. Ability to work closely with other employees to ensure positive, constructive environment within the program or department, and throughout the agency.
9.Ability to thrive in a flexible, fast-paced and growth-oriented environment, while maintaining a sense of humor and a positive, solution-oriented approach.
10.Passion and enthusiasm for the mission of CCDSR and its clients.
11.Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
12.Bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable.
Physical Requirements
1.Requires ability to sit up to 3-6 hours per day with intermittent occasional walking and standing. Requires ability to enter/exit the vehicle numerous times per shift.
2.Occasionally may be required to lift items up to 30 pounds to a height up to 7 feet.
3.Occasionally may be required to carry items up to 30 pounds for distances up to one block.
4.Occasional maintenance of the vehicle will require some physical exertion, bending, squatting, and twisting.
