JOB TITLE: Trainer / Mediator

REPORTING TO: Director ofTraining and Mediation Services

SALARY:£25,000 per annum (pro-rata)

LOCATION:Belfast

CONTRACT PERIOD:12 months with possible extension

STATUS OF POST:This post 37.5 hours per week

(This post includes evenings and weekends)

HOLIDAYS:20 days plus 11 statutory holidays per annum.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Trainer/Mediator will design and deliver TIDES programme of work and develop the necessary components to support new initiatives as outlined in our strategic objectives.

The person appointed will support the Director of Training and Mediation Servicesto ensure the development and implementation of TIDES Mediation and Training Services and Quality Standards. This will include the promotion of TIDES services and seeking to secure new business in the community, public, private & International markets.

The person appointed with assist TIDES in developing and delivering processes to facilitate strong and flexible relationships in order to create a respectful society

Main Duties:

  1. Ensure TIDES provides quality services to meet the needs of stakeholders
  • Responsibility for the delivery of quality outcomes through training programmes and mediation services.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to embed quality assurance practice in training and mediation.
  • Provide transformative and facilitative mediation processes.
  • Work with the Manager of Training and Mediation Servicesto develop and implement robust quality systems and quality standards such as ISO.
  • Assist with the research and development of evaluation models to track impact of services and ensure implementation.
  1. Ensure work is planned & managed effectively to achieve TIDES aims and objectives
  • Assist in the development of short and long term plans for programmes, monitor progress, assure adherence and evaluate performance.
  • Lead the implementation of conflict analysis as an evaluation tool and business opportunity.
  • Ensure the expectations and views of clients and stakeholders are regularly assessed and there is a continuous broad review of the external and internal environment of the organisation.
  • Support organisational effectiveness by, for example, assisting the scoping of new projects and initiatives, facilitating the sharing of good practice and providing solutions to interim challenges.
  1. Ensure positive relations and communications are built
  • Support the TIDES team with priority work areas.
  • Promote TIDES Training services and develop positive relationships for business development and opportunities.
  • Promote and seek new business: community, public and international markets
  • Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with all sectors including: community groups, funders, and other agencies.
  • Support the development of policy papers and consultation responses which represents the organisations ethos and enhances the organisations community profile.
  1. Ensure resources are acquired and efficiently and innovatively managed
  • Ensure the effective monitoring and evaluation of service delivery, within programme budgets and in a timely manner.
  • Serve on specific tender writing teams as appropriate.
  • Support the development of a training/intern team and implement and monitor programme to meet desired outcomes
  • Play a role in delivering the strategic and operational priorities for 2014-17 in a coherent way that drives organisational effectiveness.
  1. Ensure effective leadership and people management
  • Assist the Manager of Training and Mediation Servicesto support staff through peer to peer reflective practice.
  • Supervise trainees/interns by articulating expectations, displaying model behaviour, maintaining open lines of communication and being clear about roles and relationships
  1. Ensure staff and associates are enabled to develop
  • Act as a role model and advocate for personal development
  • Ensure that all training is effectively evaluated and contributes to organisational learning and performance.
  • Assist the Manager of Training and Mediation Servicesto manage and support our associate membership.

Personal Specification

Attributes / Essential / Desirable / Tested
Education and Training / A Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline e.g. social science; community development; community relations; TIDES training for Trainers programme AND 2 years’ experience working in community relations.
OR
Applicants with 5 years paid experience but do not hold a Degree / Experience in restorative practices/approaches / Application
Experience / Demonstrate a track record in successfully building effective working relationships with community groups, public representatives and statutory agencies, developing partnerships and finding positive solutions to problems.
At least 3 years professional Community Relations and Conflict Management training experiencein an innovative and challenging way
Relevant experience of mediating with hard to reach groups.
Experience of monitoring & managing budgets in accordance with policies, procedures/ external funding requirements. / Experience of bringing diverse groups together for events and training programmes.
Ability to analyse, interpret and leverage data to inform decision making and practice. / Interview

Complete proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint / Knowledge and understanding of people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
