Salary: £28,982 to £37,394 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance review.

Reporting to: Head of School/Head of Division of Nutritional Sciences

Purpose of the Role:

The School of Biosciences delivers large undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes in nutrition at Sutton Bonington Campuses. The courses taught comprise 3 year BSc degrees in Nutrition and Nutrition and Food Science and 1 year MSc degrees in Nutritional Sciences, Animal Nutrition and Clinical Nutrition. Nutrition is also well-established at the University’s Malaysia campus and an active inter-campus exchange is developing including an ongoing programme of summer schools alternating between Malaysia and the UK. The purpose of the new role is to contribute to the delivery of this portfolio of taught programmes in support of Prof Simon Langley-Evans who will be Head of School for four years from 1st August 2016.

Main Responsibilities / % time per year
1. / Teaching
·  To prepare and deliver lectures/seminars/tutorials as appropriate. The role will involve supporting the teaching work of Prof Simon Langley-Evans whose teaching is mainly in the public health nutrition, nutrition and reproductive health, early life programming and lifecourse nutrition.
·  To teach and examine students, particularly those on the BSc Nutrition and MSc Nutritional Sciences degrees. To act as Module Convenor for some of the modules associated with these degrees and to maintain and develop both the quality and appropriateness of the course materials and the curriculum.
·  To support and comply with the University and School teaching quality assurance standards and procedures, including the provision of such information as required.
·  Supervise undergraduate students undertaking appropriate Research Projects within the Division.

2. / Research
·  The role is primarily teaching focused, however there will be opportunity to undertake research supervision in the area of public health nutrition and topics relevant to the expertise of the successful candidate. / 10%
3. / Administration
·  The successful candidate will actively contribute to the administrative duties of the Division and the University.
·  To act as a personal tutor for undergraduate students as required.
·  To take part in and contribute to staff development activities consistent with continuous professional development.
·  To ensure compliance with health and safety requirements in all aspects of work. / 20%
4. / Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the person appointed. / 10%

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications/ Education / PhD (or Equivalent) in an area of human nutrition or associated life sciences discipline. / Associate or Registered Nutritionist status
Skills/Training / Evidence of good teaching & presentation skills relevant to human nutrition
Research skills in areas that are relevant to the discipline of nutrition (e.g. laboratory experience, epidemiological or clinical studies, statistical expertise) / A postgraduate teaching
qualification, e.g. PGCHE or
equivalent.
Experience / Teaching experience in nutrition at undergraduate or postgraduate level. / Administrative duties associated
with taught modules in Higher
Education.
Interpersonal skills / Ability to work in a highly multidisciplinary and applied field.
Self motivation and flexibility.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
