Job Title:Student Support Officer
Reports to:Head of Academic Administration
Hours:28 Hours per week
Salary:£22,500 (pro rata)
Holiday Entitlement
30 days paid holiday per annum, pro rata, inclusive of eight Statutory Bank Holidays increasing by one day per year of service, up to a maximum of 35 days per annum.
Overall purpose of the job:
To oversee all aspects of Student Support for the Higher Education Programme at the National Centre for Circus Arts, under the direction of the Director of Higher Education and in collaboration withdegree administration and delivery staff; to manage all aspects of student support includingeffective and efficient organisation of all Learning Support interventions; towork closely with all degree staff to ensure that students with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities can engage with their course of study.

1.Student Support and the Organisation of Learning Support Interventions
- To undertake the management of all student support at induction, including but not exclusively: Student Finance and fee payment, housing advice and information regarding mental and physical health and wellbeing
- To organise external support for students including; counselling services, nutritionist, English language tutor, and SpLD tutors
- To manage all aspects of learning support with respect to National Centre and Conservatoire for Dance and Drama policy, including the development and monitoring of Learning Support Agreements
- To work with students to identify their learning support needs and organise external assessment and support when required
- To work with degree staff, teachers and learning support professionals to implement all learning support interventions in a timely and effective manner
- To maintain accurate, confidential records of all individual support needs, student support provision and monitor invoices pertaining to support for students
- To provide accurate statistical information and profiles of the Learning Support services provided for inclusion in internal and external reporting
- To participate in certain aspects of admissions, auditions and assessments to ensure that high quality support, including assessment concessions, is provided
- To provide support and direction to National Centre staff, providing advice and guidance as required
- To promote positive working relationships and foster links with other National Centre departments and relevant external agencies
- To work closely with the Head of Academic Administration and the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama to implement and maintain Equality and Diversity initiatives relevant to the HE Programme
- To promote inclusivity and student independence, and act as an advocate for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
- Booking in Physio referral sessions and 1-1 strength and conditioning sessions.
- Facilitating some induction lectures.
2. Student Finance
- To act as the first point of contact for students regarding all issues of student finance and Student Finance England, in collaboration with the Admission and Registry Manager
- To advise on disability support allowance applications
- To manage the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama scholarship scheme alongside the Head of Academic Administration and Director of Finance
- To manage applications to the student hardship fund
- To work with the National Centre Finance Department to monitor equipment loans and hardship fundapplications.
3.Library Management
- To act as librarian and manage a formal borrowing system
- To manage library resources, including updating the library catalogue and undertaking audits of available resources
- To liaise with the Head of Academic Administration with regards to the purchasing of books and DVDs Essay skill workshops and referencing.
- To support the management of the Virtual Learning Environment
4.Meetings
The HE Student Support Manager will attend:
- Degree Administration Team meetings (weekly)
- Staff/StudentLiaisonCommittee meetings (monthly) – Meeting Clerk
- Learning and Teaching Committee (termly) – with reporting duties
- Academic Board meetings (termly) – with reporting duties
- Student Progress Meeting(termly) – with reporting duties
- Periodical course review meetings (as scheduled by awarding university)
- Conservatoire of Dance and Drama (CDD) sub-committees (as scheduled)
- National Centre for Circus Arts sub-committees (as scheduled)
- Access HE disability forum.
5.Other Duties
Such other duties that may from time to time be reasonably required
PROFILE
Essential
- Must be familiar with MS Office and possess a good/advanced level of IT competency e.g. Excel, working with data bases and general email
- Good writing and communication skills (face-to-face and telephone)
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to design, implement and manage effective and accurate administrative systems and records
- Experience of working collaboratively and positively in a team
- Ability to work sympathetically and productively with young people at a formative stage in their professional development and in supporting specific learning needs
- Ability to work under pressure or multi-task when appropriate, and an ability to prioritise a diverse workload
- An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the ability to maintain a professional manner and calm approach in a busy office and educational environment

Desirable
- Working knowledge of Celcat.
- Education/Arts background
- Experience of working with Moodle.
- Qualified first-aider in the workplace or willingness to train.
