JOB TITLE: STLS/Outreach Teacher

LOCATION: Foxwood School

RESPONSIBLE TO: Asst Head/ISIS Manager for day to day management

Head teachers for Professional Lead

GRADE: Main Scale/Upper Pay Spine (+ 2 SEN points)

1. Job Summary:

To meet the five outcomes of Every Child Matters by supporting and challenging, directly or indirectly, schools, groups and individuals to contribute to a climate of continuous improvement for children and young people with learning difficulties/disabilities across a wide range of educational provisions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·  Provide specialist teaching expertise and advice to improve the quality of teaching and learning for children and young people with communication and interaction difficulties by supporting the delivery of, and access to, the National Curriculum and other appropriate curricula through teaching.

·  Improve teachers' capacity to raise the achievement of pupils and overcome the barriers to learning of children and young people with communication and interaction needs by modelling good practice and developing training, particularly at transition points.

·  To liaise closely with expertise within district special provision to promote seamless working between all parts of the county wide resource and support the development of outreach and inreach around resourced mainstream provisions to service cluster needs.

·  Develop and deliver training to schools and settings, to promote inclusion.

·  To work with LIFT groups, schools and settings to promote and facilitate the development of inclusive practices in order to raise the attainment and achievement of vulnerable and underachieving children and young people.

·  Meet the requirements of the Code of Practice by providing specialist assessments and observations in order to inform appropriate learning objectives, targets and strategies for individual children and young people and inform county decision making.

·  Promote opportunities for children and young people to be actively involved in decisions affecting them.

·  Promote the involvement of parents and carers in decisions and interventions involving their children and young people.

·  Provide managers, teachers, practitioners, agencies and parents/carers with appropriate information, including data which can be analysed to determine children and young people's progress and achievement, using available IT where appropriate.

·  Maintain records of assessment activity, lesson planning, support strategies and their delivery in line with STLS policy and service level agreement standards.

·  Utilise data to identify strengths and weaknesses and make recommendations to facilitate school improvement.

·  Contribute to the monitoring of children and young people achievement and keep records to inform County database.

·  Utilise ICT as a tool for communication, record keeping and managing information.

·  Liaise with other staff and agencies to provide coherent and consistent multi-professional interventions for children and young people, particularly through working collaboratively with Health, Social Services and Education partners through the East and West Kent County Management Groups for Behaviour, Communication and Interaction. These groups will also provide professional supervision as appropriate.

·  Undertake continuous professional development in line with the school improvement plan and performance management interview outcomes.

·  To ensure appropriate use of all specialist equipment and technology to support learning.

·  To participate actively and effectively in performance management processes.

·  Teach classes, small groups and individuals in other areas of the school as appropriate.


PERSON SPECIFICATION

OUTREACH TEACHER

Experience and Knowledge

·  Demonstrate high quality recent and sustained teaching experience in mainstream or special schools, settings and/or colleges.

·  Demonstrable experience of designing and delivering high quality INSET to a range of audiences.

·  Demonstrable evidence of participating in continuous professional development and applying this within the specialist area of work.

·  Ability to demonstrate successful sustained experience of working collaboratively with te4aching and non-teaching staff, parents, carers and other agencies.

·  To continue to develop skills and knowledge and to be aware of current education research and literature linked to a specialist area.

Skills and Abilities

·  Demonstrable experience of initiating, managing and working within a changing environment.

·  Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of professionals and an ability to resolve conflict.

·  Ability to contribute an enthusiastic and clear vision for collaborative working in multi-disciplinary teams.

·  Ability to model high professional standards in all aspects of work.

·  Confidence and competence in the use of ICT particularly Microsoft Office applications.

·  Ability and willingness to travel to meet requirements of the service.
