Job Title:Specialist Moderator - Ministry of Defence (MOD)

Department:Awarding Body & International Development

Responsible to:Quality Manager

Location:Home based

Key Relationships:Directorof the Awarding Body and International Development, Quality and Qualifications Manager,MOD Specialist Lead Moderator (MoDSLM), MOD Project Manager, Business Development Manager, Quality Officer, Qualifications Administrator, External Assessment Administrator, Awarding Body Administrator, Operations Manager, Customer Service Co-ordinator and operations team, Approved MOD Centre’s

JOB SUMMARY

  1. To moderate the assessment process and learners assessed work in line with CMI quality assurance practices and within the agreed period
  2. To arrange and conduct allocated centre visits to sample learner work as and when required and respond to quality questions raised by their Centre(s)
  3. To agree Personal Achievement Records for learners at the allocated Centres
  4. To complete visit reports for agreement by the centre within the period specified
  5. To provide the MoDSLMand Quality Manager with data as required
  6. To attend and participate in all training and standardisation sessions
  7. To inform CMI of any conflicts of interest that may arise during the course of their duties

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Moderate the assessment process and learners assessed work in line with CMI quality assurance practices and within the agreed period
  • To moderate the assessment process and learners assessed work in line with CMI quality assurance practices and follow all standardisation training
  • To moderate the assessment process and learners assessed work in line with regulatory and legislation requirements
  • To take feedback and guidance from the MoDSLMand Quality Manager regarding moderation
  • To moderate the assessment process and learners assessed work by arrangement with respective approved MOD Centres, at a frequency commensurate with throughput of learners
  1. To conduct centre visits on specific qualification to review assessed learner work
  • Conduct centre visits to moderate learner work on specific qualifications as and when required
  • To sample centre assessments in line with CMI quality assurance practices
  • To sample centre assessments in line with regulatory and legislation requirements
  • To provide quality briefings to staff and learners within their allocated approved MOD Centre(s)
  1. To complete and return all paperwork and feedback to the Approved MOD Centre within the period specified
  • To complete and post HUB reports to the required standard and within the period specified
  • To provide the MoDSLMand Quality Manager with details of any malpractice or maladministration
  • To seek guidance from the MoDSLMand/or Quality Manager if any issues that the Moderator is unable to resolve in relation to the learner assessment or marking scheme

  • To provide the MoDSLMand Quality Manager with data as required
  • To provide the MoDSLMand Quality Manager with any adhoc data as requested
  • To provide the MoDSLMand Quality Manager with any suggestions of improvement of CMI policy and practices

  • To fully participate in all training and standardisation sessions
  • To participate or represent the MOD Specialist Moderators in review/quality board meetings with the client(s) – in agreement with the MoDSLM
  1. Adhere to all CMI policies and procedures in particular Code of Conduct, Adherence, conflicts of interest. Inform CMI of any conflicts of interest that may arise during the course of their duties

  • Effective moderation of allocated Approved MOD Centres within the agreed period
  • Compliance processes which met regulatory requirements are designed and implemented
  • Effective departmental and interdepartmental relations are developed and maintained
  • Effective partnerships are maintained with external stakeholders

KEYCHARACTERISTICS

Essential

  • Degree level or equivalent
  • Assessor Quality Assurance qualification or equivalent
  • Experience of moderation of a range of assessment methods
  • Experience, understanding and technical knowledge of the subject area for the qualifications for which they will be responsible
  • IT skills - proficient in Microsoft applications
  • In-depth understanding of the Awarding Body role
  • Knowledge of the role of the Regulatory Authorities in qualifications' quality and monitoring
  • Knowledge and understanding of the regulations governing qualifications in the UK
  • Experience of working within an education, training, development and/or assessment environment as an assessor, verifier, administrator or auditor
  • Experience of creating and maintaining high quality customer relationships - internal and external
  • Calm and unflustered
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to maintain high standards
  • Ability to focus on detail
  • Ability to attend meetings, events in the UK
  • Enthusiastic and passionate about education and maintaining standards

Desirable

  • Knowledge of CMI and its work.
  • Experience of working within regulatory frameworks, preferably within a assessor and/or compliance role
