JOB TITLE: Resource Development (Middle East) Intern

LOCATION: Central London

DEPARTMENT: Resource Development & Communications

REPORTS TO: Director of Resource Development & Communications

START DATE: ASAP

DUARATION: 6 Months (Number of Days per Week Depends on Candidate)

BACKGROUND

International Medical Corps UK is a global humanitarian organisation saving and rebuilding lives through health care, training and community development. International Medical Corps UK works alongside International Medical Corps Worldwide, responding to humanitarian emergencies and communities afflicted by conflict, poverty and natural disaster in more than 30 countries around the world.

International Medical Corps UK is moving into an exciting time of expansion, looking to dramatically increase its unrestricted private fundraising, scale up the funds raised, expand partnerships and relationships across the new website and online channels as a key means to increase awareness of the organisation across the UK and Europe. To do this; International Medical Corps UK have embarked on an ambitious strategy to grow public awareness, high profile coverage and high value fundraising to hit ambitious targets for growth.

The Resource Development & Communications Team leads the International Medical Corps UK engagement with private fundraising, media relationships and marketing campaigns across the UK and Europe as well as raising awareness, general outward facing communication and brand. The team is responsible for raising both income and public and media awareness of International Medical Corps UK’s work and brand.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

This is an exciting opportunity to support the Resource Development & Communications team in engaging and building initial dialogue with potential International Medical Corps UK MENA relationships / partnerships in the UK as well as learning new and developing skills. Specifically, this will involve assisting in:

·  Developing plans to proactively outreach to Arab UK

·  Supporting the building and maintaining of regular external communication with Embassies and other potential MENA specific relationships / partnerships

·  Maintaining and updating Raiser’s Edge MENA contacts

·  Developing potential funding proposals and concept notes

·  Outreach to media outlets in the UK focused on the Middle East.

·  Production, editing, review and/or drafting reports and material necessary for MENA outreach activities and the UK website.

·  Perform such other responsibilities as may be required from time to time in order to ensure the smooth running of the team, the senior management team, cross departmental teams, the department and the organisation as a whole

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this internship the candidate is expected to have:

·  Gained experience in fundraising and communications

·  Understanding of how different organisations and stakeholders interact in humanitarian operations (NGOs, Government, Donors, UN, National partners, Beneficiaries)

·  Gained experience of building successful relationships and being able to work with a range of staff and partner organisations.

·  Understanding of potential funding opportunities and how these can be successfully executed

·  Experience of writing proposals, reports and other target audience collateral online and offline

·  Understanding of how HQ and field operations interlink.

·  Experience using a CRM database

PERSON SPECIFICATION

This role would be most suitable for someone who is excited to learn and develop skills within an NGO environment. The candidate will need to be highly motivated and possibly wishing to launch a career in fundraising and/or communication within the NGO/humanitarian sector. They need to bring some experience of basic understanding of fundraising with a desire for continuous learning, creative problem solving. Other essential requirements include:

1.  Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, including the presence to deal effectively with diverse constituencies including key leadership and staff in the field

2.  Ability to develop trust and strong collaborative working relationships

3.  Highly motivated, results orientated self-starter with a focused professional approach as well as the drive and commitment to set and achieve challenging goals

4.  Excellent writing skills, including the ability to inspire and persuade, communicate clearly and concisely, and formulate messages in an engaging way

5.  Excellent project management skills, including the ability to work to tight, competing deadlines

6.  Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail

7.  A self-starter with the ability to build systems that will have a long-term impact on the organization. Must have an entrepreneurial and creative approach to problem-solving, and the ability to take advantage of emerging opportunities

8.  A high level of energy, self-confidence, and a positive “can-do” attitude are essential, as is humility;
