JOB TITLE: REPEATS PRESCRIPTION CLERK

REPORTS TO: PRACTICE MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT

HOURS: 16 HOURS PER WEEK

GRADE: AMC 2 £7.60 per hour to £8.18 per hour

Job Summary:

The primary purpose of this role is to process repeat prescriptions with-in a 48-hour time period.

The request may come from patients via the repeats telephone line which is open between 9:00AM and 12:30PM, the repeat prescription ordering slips, SystmOnline requests and from postal requests from patients, nursing/residential homes and healthcare companies.

Job Responsibilities:

·  Ensure an efficient and effective repeats prescription service is provided to all patients and patient representatives

·  Receive telephone calls on the repeats line in a courteous manner

·  Accuracy and efficiency in processing the requests at all times

·  Writing or sending tasks on the computer system to the clinicians using the protocols set out for any prescription queries

·  Determine if the prescription is for delivery by a pharmacy, script only to be collected at reception by the patient or their representative and mark with appropriate stickers

·  Ensure all controlled drug requests are marked with the appropriate sticker

·  Process requests from the pharmacy staff for NOMAD patients (blister packs) when received

·  Process prescriptions from scheduled task on the computer system for patients who receive their medication weekly, fortnightly or monthly by this method

·  Process monthly requests from residential/nursing homes when received

·  Make telephone calls to patients, their representatives, nursing/residential homes or healthcare companies as required passing on any messages from the clinicians to query any requests that are unclear

·  Quality control of repeat prescriptions to ensure all medications requested have been processed correctly by the repeats team

·  Liaise with Practice staff, pharmacies, hospitals and care workers with regard to patients repeat prescriptions

·  Undertake any other additional duties to the post as requested by the Practice Management Team or the Partners

·  Report errors and significant events and participate in team reviews of such incidents in order to define learning points and correct actions

·  Cover colleagues holiday and sick cover as required plus days unavailable that are not worked

·  Embrace change in this role within a developing environment

ADMINISTRATION DUTIES

·  Post and fax prescriptions as required

·  Record on the patients file when prescriptions have been posted, faxed or collected by a patients representative – usually a care worker from a nursing/residential home

·  Post and fax prescriptions as required

·  Photo copying as required
