Job Title: Radiography Assistant – Maternity Cover – 12 Months

Hours of Work: 37 Hours per week – variable rota

Main Place of Work: Linton House Clinic, Thirlestaine Road, Cheltenham, and on the mobile MRI units at various locations within the UK

Responsible to: MRI Department Manager/

MRI Mobile Operations Manager

Accountable to: Chief Executive

Job Purpose: To assist qualified radiographers with their day to day duties and to provide support for patients attending the Imaging Centre for diagnostic imaging examinations and to the One Stop Clinic service. The post requires a flexible approach to working days/hours to meet the needs of the service.

Key areas of responsibility will include:

Operational Duties

Ø  Data entry on the Patient Administration System (PAS), data sharing and image distribution using Picture Archive (PACs), Image Exchange Portal (IEP) and other associated systems.

Ø  Helping to maintain image processing systems and accessory equipment

Ø  To run, analyse and present monthly management reports as determined for the purposes of quality management

Ø  Ensure accurate medical records are maintained

Ø  Support Consultant Radiologists in the use of PAS and PACs systems

Ø  Working to set standards and protocols, functioning in accordance with best practice and in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standards and requirements

Ø  Providing reassurance to patients using the services of the Imaging Centre and on the mobile units

Ø  Provide information to patients about their examination

Ø  Conducting screening safety checks with patients prior to examination to ensure their suitability for imaging examinations and to ensure that any contraindications are brought to the immediate attention of the Radiographer responsible for supervising the patient’s examination

Ø  Escorting patients to and from static and mobile scanners at the Imaging Centre and at such other locations where Cobalt provides mobile diagnostic imaging services

Ø  Support visiting Consultants and patients attending the One Stop Clinics

Ø  Dispense drugs under the direction of a medical practitioner or appointed practitioner in charge for diagnostic examinations and One Stop Clinics procedures and maintain accurate records relating to medicine management.

Ø  Providing physical and emotional support to patients throughout their attendance

Ø  Clerical tasks such as Reception duties, booking appointments, answering e-mail and telephone enquiries, filing, post room duties.

Ø  To assist the radiography assistant team lead with the development of and implementation of workflow/process improvements in their area

Management of Resources

Ø  Monitor and maintain laundry supplies

Ø  Monitor and maintain beverage/refreshment supplies to the Imaging Centre waiting area and One Stop Clinic waiting area.

Ø  Maintain clinical stock and supplies as directed by the duty Superintendent Radiographer.

Personal Development

All Cobalt staff are required to participate in the organisation’s annual appraisal scheme. Focus on the following year’s departmental and personal objectives will be identified, discussed and agreed.
