Job Title:Quit Because Youth Presenter & Adviser

Reports to:Head of Youth Services

Purpose:To deliver smoking education and smoking cessation support to young people

Location:Schools or youth settings in the Midlands

Hours:17.5 hrs/week (flexible working patterns to meet the requirements of the service.) Will include early morning, some evening and possible weekend work.

Job Purpose:

The Quit Because Youth Presenter & Adviser will work as part of the Quit Because Team delivering and monitoring all aspects of QUIT’s Youth Programme to young people throughout their area. This will include contacting schools and other youth centres to set up and deliver Quit Because Presentations and Stop Smoking Groups as well as new services as they are developed. This position will involve close liaison with individuals and teams within the health and education sectors and other organisations within the area to promote Quit Because and all services provided by QUIT.

Main responsibilities:

Service Delivery

To provide lively and educational presentations covering all smoking-related issues in schools, youth clubs and other youth settings.

To deliver Stop Smoking Groups in secondary schools and youth centres to small groups (maximum 12) of young smokers who wish to quit.

To deliver new services as they are developed which promote the QUIT’s aims.

To help participating schools and individuals identify and develop tobacco control objectives and facilitate learning throughout the programme.

To meet targets set by the Head of Youth Services.

Relationship Management

To liase by letter, phone and email with teachers, youth workers and other youth supervisors to book presentations, Stop Smoking Groups and other Quit Because services.

To develop relationships with teachers, youth workers and other youth supervisors to ensure Quit Because programme is fully supported in your region.

To develop contacts within your region to promote Quit Because and establish working relationships within the health and education sectors.

To act as a representative of QUIT at all times.

Communication with QUIT, London

To keep QUIT regularly informed of the progress of Quit Because within your region.

To record details of work carried out as directed by Head of Youth Services using appropriate systems.

To write reports on services delivered and targets.

To attend team meetings at a venue outside your region every half term.

Monitoring and Evaluation

To monitor the success of the Quit Because programme by gathering feedback from participants either for in house evaluation or for external sources.

To facilitate and review with young people their learning from Quit Because activities.

Training

To attend training sessions to develop skills for delivery of services and work practices.

Keep up to date with new developments within relevant fields and research information as appropriate.

To attend compulsory team meetings and 1-2-1s in London as directed by the Head of Youth Services.

Publicity

To promote Quit Because and your work through the media when required.

Funding

To identify local sources for funding and support, and liase with the Development Department at QUIT to achieve set targets.

Experience

At least 1 yrs experience in statutory or voluntary sector in health, education or counselling based work / √
