Job Title:positive activities worker – Hanham Youth Club

Hours:3.5- 7 hours per week

Salary:£15,917 – £17,392per annum (PRO RATA)

Line Manager:LEAD POSITIVE ACTIVITIES/ENGAGEMENT WORKER (HANHAM)

general responsibilities:

  • Deliver a range of positive activities to engage young people and achieve the outputs and outcomes as required by the funder
  • Work with young people to offer stimulating activities to ensure their engagement and personal growth
  • Work with freelance staff to deliver a range of activities including arts, sports, etc.
  • Identify and actively engage disadvantaged young people in these programmes.
  • Support disadvantaged young people to achieve outcomes as required by the funder.
  • Identify emerging issues and recommend responses relating to young people in the locality.
  • Act as part of a team responding to emerging needs in the area
  • Record management information and other contract requirements in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Provide accurate and appropriate information, advice and guidance to young people
  • Support the promotion of Hanham Youth Club and the activities there.

Person specification:

skills and knowledge:

  • Experience of working with young people
  • Level 3 (or the willingness to achieve Level 3) qualification in an area related to work with children and young people
  • 2 years’ experience of delivering a range of positive activities to achieve outcomes for young people.
  • Knowledge and contacts with young people in Hanham and the surrounding areas.
  • Good written and verbal communication and counselling skills
  • Experience of using a variety of information technology and the ability to maintain records on a database
  • Knowledge of the Children Act
  • Experience of liaising with other agencies
  • Commitment to equalities and anti-discriminatory working practice
  • Commitment to on-going professional development
  • Commitment to developing knowledge of the area in which they will be working and an understanding of the issues of sections of the community
  • Ability to identify vulnerable children and young people and target services accordingly
  • Able to engage and encourage colleagues across services and sectors to work together effectively
  • Able to provide children and young people with enjoyable, stimulating and challenging experiences
  • Able to provide children and young people with appropriate information, advice, support and challenge, and refer them to specialist help when required.
  • Able to establish and maintain positive relationships with children and young people, including agreeing limits for acceptable behaviour
  • Able to use a variety of approaches creatively – matched to children and young people’s different needs, abilities and interests
  • Experience of IAG delivery.
  • Prepared to work in a number of locations.
  • Prepared to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends and other unsocial hours.
