Job Title:Playing Out Nottingham Coordinator

Hours:15 per week

Pay:£22,443 pro rata (ie £9,099 per annum for 15 hours)

Duration:Fixed Term Contract until 30th September 2018

Location:PLAYWORKS, Alfred Street North, St Ann’s, Nottingham, NG3 1AE

Responsible for:Playing Out project, sessional workers, and volunteers

Job Purpose

The prime purpose of the job is to coordinate and deliver Playing Out Nottingham – a partnership project consisting of local authority, health and wellbeing, housing, voluntary sector and residents of Nottingham. Promoting the opportunity for community play to take place in parks and on the street, meeting the needs of local children and bringing the community together.

The street is the “starting point for all journeys”(Tim Gill, 2007)

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • To develop and supervise Playing Out Nottingham sessions
  • To be responsible for safe working practices for all Playing Out Nottingham sessions
  • To line manage the Playing Out Nottingham Playworkers
  • To plan, supervise and deliver innovative play programmes/activities that meet the needs of all people within the community
  • To collaborate with partners to deliver at existing community activities
  • To support the coordination of Celebrate Play on 1st August
  • To promote Playing Out Nottingham via social media and PR routes
  • To support resident led applications for road closure
  • To raise community participation in the project and to raise the importance of children’s play
  • To ensure that the project works alongside other PLAYWORKS projects, specifically the Heritage Lottery funded PlayBack project
Staff management and Supervision
  • To recruit and supervise Playing Out Nottingham Playworkers, sessional staff and volunteers, including parents/carers

Communication and Co-operation

  • Support marketing of the project
  • To feed back to the Playing Out Nottingham subgroup on a regular basis
  • To develop positive working relationships, with colleagues and with individuals, groups and agencies outside PLAYWORKS
  • To support the monitoring of the programme and work at sustaining the project beyond the four month pilot

Finance and budgets

  • To manage Playing Out Nottingham budget
  • To work with the Operations Managerto develop external funding for play development

Information and administration

  • To supervise and operate information systems to ensure that services are efficient, effective, economic and are meeting targets

Other duties

  • Any other relevant duties and responsibilities as may arise which

Skills/Knowledge:
A good understanding of children's development and play
Understanding of local and national developments for play provision
Understanding of developing exit routes and sustaining community provisions
Experience of partnership working
Able to recruit, motivate and support volunteers including parents
Able to plan and organise children’s programmes and play provisions
Able to write reports related to service development and delivery
Able to monitor and control financial and non-financial resources
Knowledge of the legal and health and safety standards as they affect play provision including risk and adventure play
Able to use ICT technology (word processing skills, use of excel spreadsheets)
Able to contribute to securing external funding or service generated income / 

Experience/Qualifications/Training:
Experience of working in the play or community sector
Experience of developing play or community programmes and provisions to meet the needs of users
Experience of working with a wide range of agencies including statutory and voluntary groups within the last two years
Recent experience of working with children across a range of ages
Good oral communication and interpersonal skills
Evidence of experience in creating effective team working leading staff or volunteers
Evidence of commitment to personal development and training / 
