Purpose of the role:To assist with the external and internal promotion and marketing of the 2017 British Science Festival.

Main areas of responsibility:

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of an overall PR plan for University of Brighton-related elements of the British Science Festival.
  • Liaise with relevant academic staff to develop media stories and PR plans around selected research projects.
  • Draft content for media, online and social media platforms as necessary.
  • Identify relevant photo, filming and PR opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with Academic Marketing Officers in the appropriate Schools to ensure that PR activities support student recruitment where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with Internal Communications to ensure effective internal promotion of the British Science Festival to staff and current students.
  • Assist with media monitoring and horizon scanning related to the British Science Festival.
  • To assist as required with other activities relating to the British Science Festival and acting as a positive and proactive member of and ambassador for Marketing & Communications.

  • Any appointment is generally made at the bottom of the salary range for the grade dependent upon experience and previous salary.
  • This is a full-time post and is fixed-term for 8 months.
  • Annual leave entitlements are shown in the table below and increase after 5 years’ service. In addition to the eight Bank Holidays, there are University discretionary days between Christmas and New Year. All leave, including bank holidays and discretionary days, is pro-rated for part-time employees.
